For investors choosing between the two today, Nvidia is the stronger conditional buy if the priorities are a much larger reported data-center business and a lower forward price-to-earnings ratio in recent third-party snapshots. Broadcom is a credible alternative for investors who prefer exposure to custom AI accelerators and networking. Both can benefit from expanding AI infrastructure spending, but their reported revenue categories are different, and neither company’s latest results guarantee future returns.
Why the companies can both benefit—and why their revenue is not directly comparable
Broadcom and Nvidia participate in the buildout of AI computing, but they report different measures of that exposure. Broadcom reports AI semiconductor revenue, tied to products including custom AI accelerators and networking. Nvidia reports Data Center revenue, reflecting a broader data-center platform rather than GPUs alone. The two figures are useful for understanding each company’s own business momentum, not for calculating a clean head-to-head AI market-share comparison.

The latest reported periods also differ: Broadcom’s fiscal third quarter of 2026 ended August 2, 2026; Nvidia’s fiscal second quarter of 2027 ended July 26, 2026. Those dates and definitions matter when comparing their scale and growth.

What the latest results say about growth and scale
| Company and measure | Latest reported result | Growth and outlook |
|---|---|---|
| Broadcom: AI semiconductor revenue, fiscal Q3 2026 | $16.7 billion | Up 221% year over year and 54% sequentially. Broadcom forecast $21.7 billion in AI semiconductor revenue for fiscal Q4 2026. |
| Nvidia: Data Center revenue, fiscal Q2 2027 | $89.0 billion; total company revenue was $96.2 billion | Data Center revenue was up 117% year over year. Nvidia forecast total fiscal Q3 revenue of $108.0 billion, plus or minus 2%. |
Broadcom’s reported AI semiconductor revenue grew faster year over year in its latest quarter, while Nvidia’s reported Data Center business was much larger in absolute dollars. Because the categories and fiscal periods differ, neither comparison alone establishes which company has greater AI market share or will grow faster in the future. The figures and outlooks come from the companies’ earnings releases: Broadcom’s fiscal Q3 2026 results and Nvidia’s fiscal Q2 2027 results.

- A 2.5-slot design maximizes compatibility and cooling efficiency for superior performance in small chassis
Broadcom CEO Hock Tan said demand for custom AI accelerators and networking remained strong, citing the quarter’s $16.7 billion in AI semiconductor revenue. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang described AI as reaching an “inflection point” and said, “Now, compute is revenue.” These are management’s characterizations of demand and opportunity, not independent forecasts.
Which stock looks cheaper on forward earnings?
Two third-party snapshots put Nvidia below Broadcom on forward P/E, a valuation ratio that compares a share price with estimated future earnings. The snapshots differ on the exact multiples, so treat them as date-specific estimates, not company-reported figures or a definitive measure of fair value.

| Provider and snapshot date | Broadcom (AVGO) forward P/E | Nvidia (NVDA) forward P/E |
|---|---|---|
| BriMindInvest, October 13, 2026 | 18.67 | 14.21 |
| AllInvestView, October 12, 2026 | 18.64 | 15.14 |
Both snapshots show the same ordering, with Nvidia at the lower forward multiple, but they do not establish that Nvidia is undervalued. Forward P/E depends on earnings estimates, which can change, and providers may calculate the ratio differently. A lower multiple can be attractive, but it is not a standalone buy signal.
What could make each investment thesis work
Broadcom: custom silicon and networking
Broadcom’s case rests on demand for custom AI accelerators and networking, with its latest reported AI semiconductor revenue showing rapid growth. Its fiscal Q4 forecast gives investors a near-term indicator to watch: whether the company can deliver the $21.7 billion in AI semiconductor revenue it projected. That is guidance, not a guaranteed result. The evidence here supports a distinct AI infrastructure thesis, but it does not establish that Broadcom is a lower-risk or more diversified choice.

- Phase-change GPU thermal pad helps ensure optimal thermal performance and longevity, outlasting traditional thermal paste for graphics cards under heavy loads
Nvidia: a larger reported data-center platform
Nvidia’s Data Center revenue provides evidence of greater reported scale in that segment, while its forecast for total fiscal Q3 revenue signals management’s near-term expectations for the whole company. Data Center revenue should not be read as GPU-only revenue or as an apples-to-apples comparison with Broadcom’s AI semiconductor sales.
Risks to weigh before buying
Nvidia’s fiscal Q2 2027 Form 10-Q identifies several factors that can affect deployment and results: infrastructure requirements such as land, power, data-center shells and capital; customer concentration; and China-related export restrictions, including related inventory charges. These are risks described in Nvidia’s SEC filing, not predictions that any particular outcome will occur. The cited information does not provide a like-for-like risk assessment of Broadcom, so it would be misleading to conclude from these disclosures alone that one stock is safer.

How to decide which is the better buy for you
- Lean toward Nvidia if you prioritize the larger reported Data Center business and the lower forward P/E in both dated snapshots, and are comfortable evaluating the risks Nvidia identifies in its filing.
- Consider Broadcom if its custom-accelerator and networking exposure better matches your thesis, and you accept that its rapidly growing AI semiconductor category is distinct from Nvidia’s broader Data Center measure.
- Recheck the evidence before acting. Company guidance, earnings estimates and market prices can change; the valuation figures above are snapshots, not current quotes guaranteed to remain valid.
The title’s “big enough for both” premise is plausible as an investment thesis: growing AI infrastructure demand can support multiple suppliers. It does not mean both stocks will rise, or rise by the same amount. Based on the available comparison, Nvidia gets the conditional edge for scale and forward valuation; an investor’s time horizon, volatility tolerance and view of sustained AI spending should determine whether that edge fits their portfolio. This comparison is general information, not individualized financial advice.
