The airline said the facility had 1,400 colleagues at opening and provided round-the-clock support to customers worldwide. It was a new facility—not BA’s first call centre in India, which the company says opened in 2006.
Where and when did British Airways open the new call centre?
British Airways announced the opening of CallBA on 30 June 2023, saying the facility had been unveiled the previous day. It is in Gurugram, near Delhi. BA described it as a global Customer Care operation serving customers around the world. British Airways’ announcement placed the opening within its wider investment in India ahead of the centenary of its flights to the country in 2024.
The opening should not be confused with BA entering India’s customer-service market for the first time. In the same announcement, the airline said it had opened its first Indian call centre in 2006.
How large was CallBA, and what support did it provide?
British Airways said 1,400 colleagues worked at the new Gurugram facility when it opened. The airline said they provided round-the-clock support to customers from the US and Europe through Asia Pacific. That is the company’s reported staffing level and service scope at opening, not an independently verified measure of service quality or customer satisfaction.

BA’s 2023 release also said CallBA had doubled in size since 2019. A later British Airways Careers page describes more than 2,000 colleagues in Gurgaon and Noida supporting customers before, during and after travel. These figures have different dates and scopes: the first refers to the new Gurugram facility at opening, while the later description covers locations in Gurgaon and Noida. They should not be read as a directly comparable headcount series.
What technology and contact channels did BA describe?
The airline said CallBA used a cloud-based telephone system with call-flow management and data intended to help personalize customer service. Its announcement also said responses through Live Chat on BA.com accounted for approximately 10% of customer contact and were growing. Both details are BA’s description of its operation in 2023; the release did not provide independent performance results.

What did BA say about the building?
British Airways described the facility as LEED Gold and GRIHA 4 certified and said it had been assessed as a green building from construction through operations. The airline also highlighted an energy-efficient double-glazed façade, natural light, open green spaces and more than 10,000 plants. These are claims in the company’s announcement; they do not, by themselves, establish the building’s measured environmental performance.
