Bridge Data Centres (BDC), owned by Bain Capital, was reported in March 2026 to be discussing a loan of up to US$6 billion to fund expansion in Thailand. The talks were ongoing, and the terms could change. The available reports do not establish that this would upsize BDC’s 2025 US$2.8 billion financing or that the borrowing would total about US$6.6 billion.

How much is Bridge Data Centres reportedly seeking to borrow?

The Business Times, citing Bloomberg and people familiar with the matter, reported on March 23, 2026, that BDC was in talks with lenders for a potential loan of up to US$6 billion to support expansion in Thailand. The report described discussions as ongoing, said details could change, and indicated a likely 12-month tenor. It did not report a finalized facility. The Business Times report is the basis for those terms.

What was BDC’s original financing?

On March 19, 2025, BDC announced US$2.8 billion in senior secured bank financing, saying the funds would support the company’s expansion. The company described it as one of the largest-ever bank facilities arranged for a pan-Asian data-centre operator; that ranking is BDC’s characterization, not an independently established ranking. BDC’s announcement does not establish that the 2026 loan discussions are an amendment or upsizing of this facility.

Where does the US$6.6 billion figure come from?

The close US$6.6 billion figure refers to a different transaction. Reuters reported that a KKR and Singtel consortium agreed to pay S$6.6 billion—equivalent to US$5.2 billion in Reuters’ report—for full control of ST Telemedia Global Data Centres. That is an acquisition price denominated in Singapore dollars, not a BDC loan amount. Reuters’ report, carried by Investing.com, discusses the separate transaction.

How to distinguish the reported transactions

Transaction Amount and currency Status in the cited reporting What the amount represents
BDC financing announced in March 2025 US$2.8 billion Announced by BDC Senior secured bank financing
BDC borrowing reported in March 2026 Up to US$6 billion Under discussion; terms could change Potential loan for Thailand expansion; likely 12-month tenor, according to The Business Times’ Bloomberg report
ST Telemedia Global Data Centres transaction reported by Reuters S$6.6 billion (US$5.2 billion in Reuters’ report) KKR and Singtel consortium agreed to pay Price for full control of ST Telemedia Global Data Centres
Possible Bain Capital sale of part of BDC At least 40% stake; reported US$5 billion valuation Reuters reported a sale process, not a completed deal Potential equity transaction, separate from borrowing

The figures describe different companies or different kinds of transactions. A potential loan, a previously announced financing, an acquisition price, and an equity valuation are not interchangeable.

What is known about a possible Bain stake sale?

In a separate report dated April 23, 2026, Reuters said Bain Capital was seeking to sell at least 40% of BDC at a reported US$5 billion valuation, with Citi and JPMorgan engaged as advisers. Reuters described a possible process, not a completed sale; BDC said it did not comment on unverified market rumours. This reported ownership transaction does not confirm the size or status of the loan discussions.

What the available reports do not establish

  • They do not establish that the potential 2026 borrowing is an upsizing of the 2025 US$2.8 billion facility.
  • They do not establish a BDC loan amount of approximately US$6.6 billion.
  • They do not establish that the reported loan or possible stake sale has closed.
  • They do not independently rank the potential loan among Asia’s largest data-centre deals.
