Breitling’s foldable, reusable watch box is made from upcycled plastic bottles and was presented in October 2020—not newly launched in 2026. The company says the smaller packaging cuts the average distance a box travels by almost 30%; its later report gives a separate, broader-sounding figure of almost 90% lower environmental impact on a materials basis. Those are Breitling’s claims, and the figures describe different things.
What changed in Breitling’s watch packaging?
Breitling describes the package as a compact, foldable and reusable alternative to a larger traditional watch box. The brand says it is made from “100% upcycled plastic bottles.” That describes the stated feedstock; it does not establish that every component is made from recycled material.
The design is intended to take up less space in transit and for the box to be reused. The Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry’s November 19, 2020 report also says the cushion can serve as a travel pouch. Breitling calls the package “the first eco-friendly, foldable and reusable watch box”—a claim attributed to the company, not an independently established industry-wide first. When was it introduced?

What environmental improvements does Breitling claim?
Breitling reports two figures with different scopes. They should not be combined or read as independently verified reductions in the package’s total emissions.

The sources cited here do not provide a third-party comparative life-cycle figure or enough calculation detail to independently validate either claim. The figures should not be generalized into a claim about total emissions or the overall sustainability of the watch.

How does the package fit Breitling’s wider policy?
Breitling’s ESG policy says the company applies a hierarchy of avoiding, reducing and recycling packaging materials, and says recycled materials should be considered where feasible. That policy provides context for the box, but it does not establish the specific package’s full life-cycle impact. Breitling ESG Policy
Breitling also says the packaging received the Solar Impulse Foundation’s Efficient Solution label. The company’s page and a CVC sustainability case study mention the label; the sources cited here do not include the Foundation’s own product listing or the underlying assessment.

Can you buy the box separately?
The cited sources describe the box as watch packaging and do not establish that Breitling currently sells it on its own. In its November 2020 report, the Swiss watch industry federation said classic boxes were available on request at that time, with buyers encouraged to make a voluntary contribution to SUGi. That is historical information, not confirmation of current availability or policy.
