Brazil’s 2024/25 Soybean Harvest Was 15% Complete by Feb. 6, AgRural Says

AgRural reported that 15% of Brazil’s planted soybean area had been harvested by February 6, 2025. That weekly snapshot was six percentage points ahead of the prior week’s pace, but eight points behind the 23% harvested at the same point in the previous season. It describes area harvested—not the share of Brazil’s expected soybean tonnage already collected.

How much of Brazil’s soybean crop had been harvested?

AgRural’s February 6, 2025 report put harvest progress at 15% of planted area. The consultancy’s report was republished by Reuters. Read as a dated measure of field progress, the figure means roughly 15 of every 100 planted hectares had been harvested by that cutoff; it does not mean 15% of the expected crop by weight was in storage. Reuters’ report of AgRural’s estimate.

The pace had increased by six percentage points from the previous week. But it remained eight percentage points below AgRural’s 23% figure for the same point in the prior season, so the week-on-week improvement did not erase the year-over-year gap.

How does AgRural’s figure compare with USDA’s?

The USDA Foreign Agricultural Service’s February 2025 circular cited industry sources reporting that 15.1% of Brazil’s soybean crop had been harvested as of February 7, against an 18.4% average. That observation is close to AgRural’s 15% figure, but it has a different cutoff date and source attribution: the two figures are not competing readings of precisely the same day. The USDA circular also estimated 2024/25 Brazilian soybean production at 169.0 million metric tons. That was a season-time estimate, not a final result. Where was harvesting further along?

National progress masked regional differences. AgRural said Paraná had harvested about one-third of its soybean area, while Mato Grosso was making good progress despite less favorable weather. In Rio Grande do Sul, rain brought relief after little rainfall in January. These observations describe conditions and progress at the time; they do not establish final yields or statewide crop losses. AgRural’s state-level observations, as reported by Reuters.

Why did the soybean pace matter for second-corn planting?

In Brazil’s main producing areas, farmers plant the second corn crop in fields after the soybean harvest. The timing of soybean removal therefore affects how much time remains to sow corn within the preferred window. As of February 6, AgRural put planting at 20% of expected second-corn area in the Center-South, compared with 38% at the same point a year earlier.

Progress was strong in Paraná and Mato Grosso do Sul, but slower in Mato Grosso and Goiás, where growers were concerned about the ideal window ending at the end of February. AgRural described a timing concern, not proof that delayed planting caused a specific later outcome. AgRural’s second-corn planting update, as reported by Reuters.

What happened after the February snapshot?

The 15% figure was an early-season weekly reading, not a current harvest status. AgRural’s March 24 update said 77% of the crop had been harvested through March 20 and revised its own production estimate to 165.9 million metric tons. That later estimate came from AgRural and should not be conflated with USDA’s February estimate of 169.0 million metric tons; the figures were issued at different times by separate organizations.
