Boeing St. Louis Machinist Strike: Talks Resumed, but the Strike Ended in November 2025

The September 2025 Boeing-IAM District 837 negotiation restart did not end the St. Louis-area strike. Members ratified a contract in November, with a return to work scheduled for November 16.

The Monday, September 29, 2025, restart of Boeing machinist negotiations was a step toward a settlement—not the end of the strike. The walkout by about 3,200 members of IAM District 837 in the St. Louis area ended after workers ratified a new contract announced November 13; IAM said they were scheduled to return November 16.

What happened when negotiations resumed?

On September 26, 2025, Boeing and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) District 837 agreed to return to negotiations with help from a federal mediator on Monday, September 29. The joint statement, reproduced by IAM, said the committees would meet “in an effort to find a path to end the strike.” That wording described an attempt to reach a deal, not an agreement already reached. IAM’s September 26 announcement

At the time, the strike had lasted 53 days, according to the Missouri Independent. The later chronology confirms that the September restart did not resolve the dispute: IAM announced another return to mediation beginning October 20.

When did the Boeing St. Louis strike end?

IAM announced on November 13, 2025, that District 837 members had ratified a new contract, ending the strike that began August 4. The union said members were to begin returning to work on November 16. IAM described the group as approximately 3,200 members. IAM’s November 13 announcement

The September 19 vote should not be mistaken for that final ratification. IAM said members had approved a union-proposed agreement but would remain on strike until Boeing accepted it. That proposal and the eventual November contract are separate stages of the dispute.

What was at issue in the September proposals?

Contemporary coverage described competing proposals, not verified terms of the final contract. The Missouri Independent reported, citing union leaders, that the union’s proposed four-year contract included a $10,000 ratification bonus, compared with $4,000 in Boeing’s proposal, and addressed top-of-scale wage increases and 401(k) benefits. IAM’s September 19 account also described its proposal as addressing 401(k) contribution percentages, top-of-scale raises, and the bonus. Those accounts explain the bargaining context; they do not establish what the ratified contract ultimately provided. IAM’s September 19 announcement

Which Boeing machinist strike was this?

This was the 2025 District 837 walkout at Boeing Defense facilities around St. Louis and St. Charles, Missouri, and Mascoutah, Illinois. It was distinct from the better-known 2024 strike in the Pacific Northwest, which involved IAM District Lodges 751 and W24. The 2024 dispute had its own agreement and return-to-work process; its dates, workforce and financial effects should not be attributed to the District 837 strike. IAM’s account of the 2025 strike 2024 agreement document

Boeing’s January 2025 preliminary results discussed production restarts and charges associated with the earlier Pacific Northwest work stoppage and agreement. They are not a measure of the 2025 St. Louis-area strike’s cost. The cited reporting and announcements do not establish an independently verified total financial cost or quantified defense-delivery delays for the District 837 walkout. Boeing’s preliminary results
