Boeing called the 200 aircraft an “initial commitment.” The announcement did not establish a firm order for 750 aircraft, and it did not disclose the aircraft types or delivery schedule. AP’s contemporaneous account also quoted Boeing describing its goal as reopening the China market to orders.

Boeing’s public statement described reopening China to orders as a major goal of its visit. That makes the announcement strategically important even before the commitment becomes scheduled deliveries: renewed access can create an opportunity to compete for future business in a major aircraft market.
