Boeing awarded Bharat Forge a contract to develop and manufacture titanium forgings for its 777X aircraft, Bharat Forge announced on April 26, 2016. The company said production would use closed-die forging and scheduled two forgings to begin shipping in late 2016, followed by two more in early 2017. Those dates were a forward-looking schedule; the available announcements do not confirm that the shipments occurred.

What the Boeing–Bharat Forge contract covered

The April 2016 announcement describes a supplier contract for titanium forgings intended for Boeing’s 777X program. Bharat Forge said it would develop and manufacture the parts using a closed-die forging process. The release does not identify the forgings’ specific function or provide technical specifications.

The schedule called for two forgings to begin shipping in late 2016 and two more in early 2017. These were the initial shipments described in the announcement, not a stated total contract quantity. Neither the release nor the contemporaneous report gives the contract’s value or total production volume. Bharat Forge’s April 26, 2016 announcement and a contemporaneous Press Trust of India report republished by The Times of India describe the award and schedule.

How it fit Bharat Forge’s earlier Boeing work

The 777X award followed an earlier reported relationship with Boeing Commercial Airplanes. In its 2016 release, Bharat Forge said it had started supplying titanium-forged flap tracks for the Next-Generation 737 earlier that year. A separate Bharat Forge release dated February 18, 2015 described a multi-year contract for titanium forgings used in wing components for the Next-Generation 737 and 737 MAX.

The 2015 release outlined a process for those 737-family parts: heat treatment, shaping in a forging press, machining by Bharat Forge, and shipment to Boeing Portland for finish machining. That process description concerns the earlier 737 work; it should not be treated as a complete manufacturing specification for the 777X contract.

What the announcement does—and does not—establish

  • Established: Bharat Forge announced the 777X contract, described the work as titanium forging using a closed-die process, and gave a planned initial shipment schedule.
  • Not established: The cited public materials do not verify that the scheduled shipments took place or whether the contract remains active, changed, or concluded.
  • Not disclosed: The sources do not state the contract value or total production quantity. The four forgings in the initial schedule cannot be presented as the full contract total.

Bharat Forge’s release quoted Boeing India President Pratyush Kumar describing the contract as an expansion of the partnership, noting the company’s earlier 737 flap-track supply. Bharat Forge Executive Director Subodh Tandale characterized the award as recognition of the company’s precision-manufacturing capabilities. These are the speakers’ statements in a company announcement, not independent assessments of quality or contract performance.
