He was not named head of the company’s advisory group: the announcement described him and incoming CFO Bryant Plavsic as executives who would work closely with a separate group reporting directly to the board.
When did Bob Browning become CEO?
Australasia Consolidated Limited (ASX: AAO) announced Browning’s appointment as chief executive officer on 25 October 2010. The company said he would assume the position on 16 November 2010. Its ASX announcement is the primary record of the appointment.
The company also announced Bryant Plavsic as chief financial officer, effective 1 November 2010. A later company record, the 2011 annual report, records Browning’s CEO appointment on 16 November 2010 and his appointment as managing director on 25 February 2011. These are historical milestones; the cited records do not establish his present-day role.
Was Browning CEO or head of the advisory group?
The ASX announcement identifies Browning as CEO and describes the advisory group as a distinct body reporting directly to the board. Browning and Plavsic were to work closely with that group; the release does not say Browning headed it.

A contemporaneous PerthNow report described Browning as set to “head up the new advisory group as chief executive.” That wording differs from the company filing’s clearer distinction between the executive team and board-reporting advisory group. The primary filing supports describing Browning as CEO working alongside the group, not as its chair.
Who was on the advisory group?
The 25 October 2010 announcement named Mark Barnaba as chairman, with John Akehurst and John Willinge as members. The company’s contemporaneous descriptions of their backgrounds were:

These are descriptions in Australasia Consolidated’s announcement, rather than independently audited biographies.
What experience did the company cite for Browning?
The company said Browning had spent three years as managing director of Austal and more than six years as chief executive of Alinta. Those durations were stated in the 2010 announcement as background to his appointment, not as independently verified performance measures.

The release described Plavsic as a Bain & Company partner and a former strategy executive at Perpetual, among other roles. The announcement did not provide a complete account of either executive’s career.

Australasia Consolidated said the executive appointments and advisory group would support a strategy of identifying, evaluating, financing and acquiring assets, then working to improve their performance and shareholder returns.

Chairman John Terpu said the appointments and completion of the advisory group had “created the foundation” for the company’s previously announced strategy to identify, evaluate, finance and acquire value-creating assets. Advisory Group Chairman Mark Barnaba characterized the combined executives and group members as “one of the country’s most experienced team of business leaders and value creators.” Both are statements attributed to the speakers in the company’s 25 October 2010 announcement, not independent assessments.
