You can earn money from blog advertising by publishing useful original content, preparing your site for visitors and the ad provider’s policies, then applying to a network that fits your operation. For a straightforward setup, Google AdSense is an automated option for web publishers; Google Ad Manager is designed for more complex inventory and direct sales. Neither guarantees approval or a particular income.

What blog advertising can—and cannot—do

With display advertising, a provider places ads on your pages and manages some or all of the process of matching ads to available space. The exact setup and commercial terms depend on the provider. The Google guidance discussed here does not establish comparative revenue figures, so there is no reliable basis here for promising a particular amount or ranking networks by earnings.

Ads are only one way to monetize a blog. Whether they suit your site depends on your goals, the provider’s eligibility and content rules, and whether the placements work for readers.

Prepare your blog before applying

Publish useful, original material

Google’s AdSense eligibility guidance says, “Your content must be high-quality, original, and attract an audience.” Google also warns against scraped or copyrighted material. Review the exact rules of the provider you are considering; compliance with one provider’s policies does not establish eligibility elsewhere. Google AdSense eligibility requirements

Make the site easy to use

Give visitors clear navigation and relevant pages that help them find what they came for. Google says that “Valuable and original content is paramount to building a strong and loyal user base.” A site that is difficult to navigate or offers little useful content is not made ready for advertising merely by adding ad code. Google’s site-readiness guidance

Check practical eligibility

Google’s eligibility guidance says applicants must be at least 18 and able to access the HTML source of the site they submit. Other networks may have different requirements, including requirements tied to geography, content, or scale. Check the provider’s live official terms before applying rather than assuming your site qualifies.

Choose between an ad network and an ad-management platform

These tools serve different needs. Google describes AdSense as an automated ad network for web publishers, including bloggers. Google Ad Manager is a more complex ad-management option for publishers with significant direct sales or broader inventory needs. Google’s comparison of AdSense and Ad Manager

Option Best fit What to consider
Automated ad network, such as AdSense A publisher seeking a comparatively straightforward web-ad setup. You still need to meet the provider’s requirements, connect the site, receive approval, and implement ads according to its instructions.
Ad-management platform, such as Google Ad Manager A publisher with more complex inventory needs or significant direct ad sales. Its additional controls are useful when the operation needs them; a simpler blog may not need that complexity.
Another managed network A publisher whose site and business fit that provider’s current offer. Eligibility and terms vary. Verify them on the provider’s official site; no current cross-network thresholds or comparable revenue data are established here.

Choose based on your actual needs, not a generic “top network” list. Compare eligibility, how much sales and placement control you need, setup requirements, policy fit, and the effect ads may have on the reading experience. Do not treat an advertised revenue figure from one publisher or site as a forecast for yours.

Apply and get ads running

  1. Prepare the site: publish original content, organize navigation, and make sure you can complete the provider’s technical setup.
  2. Read the current policies: check content and publisher requirements before applying. Google notes that publishers are responsible for following its policies, which may change. Google AdSense Program policies
  3. Choose the right service: use an automated network for a simpler advertising operation, or consider an ad-management platform when direct sales and more complex inventory are real needs.
  4. Submit and connect the site: creating an account does not, by itself, mean ads can appear. Google says a site must be connected and approved before it can show AdSense ads. Its stated review is usually a few days, though in some cases it can take two to four weeks; timing varies. Google’s site review guidance
  5. Follow the CMS-specific setup: use the instructions for your publishing platform to place ads and complete any required files or settings. Do not assume instructions for one CMS apply to another.
  6. Review placements as the site changes: check that ads do not undermine navigation or page usefulness, and continue to comply with provider policies as you publish new material.

Special case: AdSense on Blogger

Blogger has its own documented AdSense setup and ad-placement workflow. Its directions are specific to Blogger, not a general installation recipe for WordPress or other platforms. Publishers using third-party ads or manual integration may also need to configure ads.txt, depending on their setup. Follow the instructions for the service and CMS you actually use. Understand policy and revenue risks

Policy problems can stop ads

Google policy violations can block ads or lead to account suspension or closure. Some restricted content may receive limited demand rather than being treated as an ordinary eligible page. Check the applicable policy when deciding what to publish and when troubleshooting ad delivery; an absence of ads is not proof of a technical fault alone. Google AdSense Program policies

Do not budget around an assumed payout

The cited Google setup and policy materials do not provide a reliable earnings forecast or a comparison of network revenue. Treat blog ads as variable income, not a guaranteed amount, and avoid choosing a service based solely on unsupported RPM claims. Review your own results after ads are approved and live, while weighing revenue against the reader experience.
