In February 2025, the Trust warned that inadequate investment in the playing squad could lead it to call for Venky’s to sell. Gestede became part of a separate debate after an April 2025 podcast interview was discussed on a fan forum; the available forum material does not establish his exact comments.
What did the Supporters’ Trust say about Venky’s?
In a statement dated February 10, 2025, the Blackburn Rovers Supporters’ Trust said it had “some major concerns” and linked its position to whether the owners would adequately invest in the playing squad during that transfer window. It warned: “Failure to adequately invest in the playing squad during this window would make it necessary for us to change our outlook and public stance.” The Trust said that could mean calling for the owners to sell. Read the Trust’s statement.
The wording was conditional: the Trust described what it would do if it judged investment inadequate. It was the Trust’s position, not an independent assessment of the club’s finances or the owners’ motives.
The Trust’s concerns about signings and club direction
The Trust said six signings had arrived, five of them on contracts lasting only to the end of that season. It criticized the previous two January transfer windows and said short-term deals had not eased its longer-term concerns. Those figures and judgments are the Trust’s account, rather than independently validated statistics.

It also called manager John Eustace’s departure a “damning indictment” of the club, saying he had left a playoff position for a team in the relegation zone. That is the Trust’s characterization; it should not be treated as a verified explanation for his departure or as a complete account of the club’s position.
What does “massive” anger mean?
In the same February 10 statement, the Trust wrote: “There is a massive amount of completely justified anger from our fanbase at present, and fan unrest has been a near constant for the entirety of Venky’s ownership.” This describes the Trust’s assessment of supporter feeling. It is not a poll or a measured statistic about all Blackburn fans. See the Trust’s statement on its concerns.

What the Trust said about club leadership
The Trust also criticized what it viewed as a lack of autonomy and backing for club executives. It described Suhail Pasha as an advisor, conduit and owners’ representative, arguing that his role had remained broadly similar as titles changed. These are the Trust’s assessments, not independent findings about governance or decision-making.
Why is Rudy Gestede being discussed?
A BRFCS.com forum thread dated April 25, 2025, discusses a “Big Chill” podcast interview with Rudy Gestede. Supporters debated claims attributed to the interview, including recruitment, transfer fees and budgets, and some posts included personal criticism. The thread documents that fan debate; it does not verify financial claims or establish what Gestede said in full context. Read the forum discussion.

The available material does not include a primary transcript or a reliable, attributable verbatim statement from Gestede. It therefore does not support quoting him or presenting a summary of his position as established fact. The Trust’s concerns and the forum reaction to the interview are separate strands of evidence.
What is established about Venky’s ownership history?
The Independent reported in 2012 that Venky’s took over Blackburn Rovers in November 2010. That article also reported that then-manager Steve Kean defended the owners after relegation and described contemporary concerns about the distance between the club and its Pune-based owners. This is historical context, not evidence of current ownership decisions. Read the Independent’s 2012 report.

How should readers weigh the claims?
- Formal supporter position: The February 2025 statements about investment, anger and club leadership are attributable to the Supporters’ Trust. They show what the organization believed and warned it might do, not independently verified facts about finances or motives.
- Forum reaction: The April 2025 thread shows that fans discussed Gestede’s interview and related topics. It is not a transcript, financial record or confirmation of the claims debated there.
- Historical reporting: The 2012 Independent article helps place the ownership in context but cannot establish what happened in 2025 or 2026.
- Later commentary: The 2026 podcast offers a retrospective description of the season. Its characterization should remain attributed to the podcast.
