Target’s “Black-Owned or Founded Brands at Target” collection is a useful place to discover products across categories, from hair care and beauty to food, books, toys, and apparel. To check whether a specific item carries Target’s label, open its product page and look for the Black-owned or founded icon in Product Details. Assortment, prices, and local availability can change, so verify each listing before you shop.
How to find Black-owned or founded brands at Target
Start with Target’s Black-Owned or Founded Brands at Target collection. Target’s on-page guidance says: “Wondering if a brand is Black-owned or founded? Look for this icon in the Product Details to identify and support the brands you love.” Use that product-level icon to check Target’s labeling for the item you are considering rather than assuming every product from a brand is identified the same way.
The collection has brand and department filters. Depending on the item and your location, Target may also show fulfillment options such as pickup, in-store shopping, same-day delivery, or shipping. Those options and stock are item- and location-dependent; check the individual listing for current details. Target’s page explains its icon, but the reviewed information does not describe an independent audit method or a universal ownership threshold.
Browse by what you need
The collection spans different departments, so compare products within their category rather than treating them as interchangeable. Examples below are brands or products appearing in Target’s collection; confirm the Product Details icon and current listing for the item you want.

Hair care
Target’s collection includes brands such as Camille Rose, Mielle Organics, The Doux, and Chéribé. Target describes Chéribé as focused on textured-hair care and says its founder, Salwa Petersen, drew on a Chébé hair-care ritual she learned growing up in Chad. Target says the brand’s Chébé Complex uses heirloom seeds grown on Petersen’s family organic regenerative farm in Chad; that sourcing description is attributed to Target and has not been independently audited here. When choosing hair products, compare ingredients, intended hair type or concern, size, and price.
Beauty and personal care
Examples in the collection include Black Girl Sunscreen, Beauty Bakerie, BEVEL, and The Lip Bar. For sunscreen or makeup, compare the exact product’s ingredients, SPF or other relevant specifications, shade range, finish, and size. A brand’s presence in the collection does not establish that every product suits every person or use.

Apparel and accessories
Target lists apparel and accessories, including KBB by KAHLANA, a Target-exclusive brand founded by Kahlana Barfield Brown. Target reported in its February 5, 2026 feature that the brand debuted in Fall 2025 and that popular styles sold out within minutes, prompting more than 135,000 restock requests. The feature said Target planned to expand the brand to twice as many stores “this spring,” add online inventory and a seasonal collection, and offer a Curated By presence at Target SoHo. Those were plans described in February 2026, not confirmation of their current status. Check the present listing for sizes, fit, material, price, and availability.
Food and beverages
Brands in the collection include A Dozen Cousins, BLK & Bold Specialty Beverages, and WTRMLN. Compare ingredients, flavor, package size, and dietary information on the item page; availability can vary by location and fulfillment method.

Books, stationery, toys, and gifts
Be Rooted appears in stationery and accessories, while Brown Toy Box and Ikuzi Dolls are examples in toys and activities. Target identifies Jasmin Foster as Be Rooted’s founder and says she founded the stationery brand in 2020. The collection also includes entertainment and books and baby essentials, so use the department filters to explore those needs. For toys, check the recommended age and play format; for stationery, compare size, materials, and intended use.
Recent brand and designer additions
In a February 5, 2026 feature, Target said it added Chéribé and KBB by KAHLANA to its assortment in 2025. Target also described year-round partnerships with Black-owned brands alongside limited-time Black History Month collaborations.

What the collection can—and cannot—tell you
- It is a discovery tool, not a stock guarantee. An item’s presence in the collection does not mean it is available in every size, store, or fulfillment channel.
- Check the product page. Confirm the icon in Product Details, then review the exact item’s current price, specifications, and availability.
- Compare like with like. Ingredients and intended use matter for hair care; shade and finish for makeup; fit and material for clothing; flavor and dietary details for food; age suitability for toys.
- Read the label as Target’s designation. The collection identifies brands as Black-owned or founded, but the reviewed Target materials do not explain an independent certification or verification standard.
Target’s support for emerging businesses
Target’s fact sheet, updated August 13, 2026, describes retail education, mentorship, merchant connections, and launch-and-scale opportunities for emerging founders. It says the company holds brand discovery events twice a year across categories and hosted more than 50 emerging food and beverage brands in Minneapolis in summer 2026.
Target describes Target Takeoff as an accelerator for emerging consumer packaged-goods brands preparing for a Target launch. According to the same fact sheet, more than 150 brands across categories had participated since 2017. Target reports that Takeoff alumni from 2020–2025 reached $66 million in sales; 12 brands reached at least $1 million in revenue since 2022; and almost a quarter of brands that went through the program in 2025 had already reached $1 million in sales. These are Target-reported program figures, not a guarantee of results for future participants.
Target also says it has partnered with Atlanta’s Russell Innovation Center for Entrepreneurs since 2020 and increased its commitment in 2024 with a $1.5 million investment over three years. The reviewed fact sheet does not establish current enrollment or a referral opportunity.
Historical figures should not be mistaken for current participation rates. Target’s 2022 ESG report reported that, in 2021, Black-owned brands accounted for 45% of accelerator applications and 30% of Target Takeoff cohort participants; 73% of applications to the inaugural Forward Founders program came from Black-owned businesses. These are dated program figures, not current rates.
