When did Black Friday deals start?
There was no single start date for Black Friday deals across all U.S. retailers. Amazon’s event began November 20, while Black Friday itself was November 28. The supplied sources do not establish a complete schedule for other retailers, so shoppers had to check each retailer’s announced dates and terms.
Which categories were forecast to have the biggest discounts?
In its October 2025 forecast, Adobe identified TVs, toys and appliances as the categories expected to have the deepest Black Friday discounts. How much did shoppers spend online on Black Friday?
Adobe reported in January 2026 that U.S. online spending on Black Friday 2025 reached $11.8 billion, 9.1% more than on Black Friday 2024. How many people shopped over the Thanksgiving weekend?
The National Retail Federation (NRF) estimated that a record 203 million consumers shopped during the 2025 Thanksgiving holiday weekend. Its survey estimated 80.3 million in-store shoppers and 85.7 million online shoppers on Black Friday, which remained the leading shopping day for both channels. These are channel-specific survey estimates; the two Black Friday figures should not be added and described as unique shoppers, because the figures do not establish that each person used only one channel. What did forecasters expect for the 2025 holiday season?
Before the season, Adobe forecast $253.4 billion in U.S. online holiday spending from November 1 through December 31, 2025, up 5.3% year over year. It also projected $43.7 billion in online spending for Cyber Week, equal to 17.2% of the season total and 6.3% higher than the comparable period in 2024. NRF separately forecast that U.S. retail sales in November and December 2025 would grow 3.7% to 4.2% over 2024 and exceed $1 trillion. This was NRF’s pre-season projection for total retail sales, not an online-only estimate or a post-season result. See NRF’s holiday sales forecast.
