Bitcoin’s Moving Averages Pointed to a Possible Shift as Ethereum Prepared for Glamsterdam: Crypto Week Ahead, Oct. 5, 2026

CoinDesk’s Oct. 5 preview described a possible Bitcoin technical shift and a planned Ethereum Glamsterdam test. By Oct. 7, the test timing and calendar outcomes remained unconfirmed in the cited sources.

CoinDesk’s Oct. 5, 2026, crypto-week preview described Bitcoin’s moving averages as converging toward a bullish alignment and said Ethereum developers were preparing a Glamsterdam testnet upgrade. Those were a dated market interpretation and a planned test—not proof of a lasting Bitcoin trend, a completed Sepolia test, or a confirmed mainnet date. Ethereum’s roadmap listed Glamsterdam as “In development,” with a Q4 2026 target, when accessed on Oct. 7.

What the Bitcoin signal meant in the Oct. 5 preview

CoinDesk reported that Bitcoin reclaimed $86,000 early Monday, briefly touched $87,000, and then reversed. It also said the 50-, 100-, and 200-day moving averages were converging toward their first fully bullish alignment since 2025, framing that pattern as support for the structure of a recovery that had lasted three months. These are CoinDesk’s reported observations and interpretation from Oct. 5, not a current price quote or an independently recalculated indicator.

A moving average smooths price data over a chosen period. When shorter- and longer-period averages converge or align, traders may read that as a shift in trend or momentum. But the averages describe past prices; their alignment cannot guarantee that prices will keep rising. The preview’s signal was therefore a technical interpretation, not a forecast with a assured outcome.

CoinDesk also pointed to dollar strength and a busy U.S. economic calendar as factors traders were watching. Economic releases can change expectations about markets, but the preview listed scheduled items and estimates, not released results.

Bitkey Bitcoin Hardware Wallet, No Screen - Self-Custody, No Seed Phrase
  • BITCOIN EXCLUSIVE, PHONE VERIFICATION: Bitkey is designed from the ground up exclusively for bitcoin — a dedicated hardware wallet for secure bitcoin storage. Approve transactions with a tap using your phone and NFC. No device screen is required.
  • SELF-CUSTODY, NO EXCHANGE OR CUSTODIAN REQUIRED: You hold two of the three keys in the Bitkey system – one on your phone and one on your Bitkey device. The third is stored on Bitkey’s server and cannot move your bitcoin on its own.
  • NO SEED PHRASE: Set up and use Bitkey without creating or storing a seed phrase.
  • 2-of-3 MULTISIG: Three keys are stored separately across your phone, Bitkey device, and Bitkey’s server. Any two keys are required to move your bitcoin.
  • BUILT-IN RECOVERY: Encrypted backup and recovery tools can help you regain access if you lose your phone or Bitkey device. You can also designate a Recovery Contact.

What Ethereum’s Glamsterdam plans did—and did not—establish

The Oct. 5 article said Ethereum developers were preparing a Glamsterdam upgrade on the Sepolia testnet during the week beginning Oct. 5. It described the test as a dress rehearsal for a mainnet implementation and associated the upgrade with account-abstraction enhancements and data-availability optimizations. That report establishes what was planned in the preview; it does not confirm that the Sepolia test happened on schedule.

Ethereum.org’s roadmap, accessed Oct. 7, listed Glamsterdam as “In development” and gave Q4 2026 as its target. The roadmap says, “Ethereum’s development is community-driven and subject to change.” That supports the quarter-level target and development status, not the specific Sepolia timing or a fixed mainnet release date.

The calendar as previewed on Oct. 5

The following dates and events were printed in CoinDesk’s Oct. 5 preview. By Oct. 7, the Oct. 5 and Oct. 6 dates had passed, and the Oct. 7–9 entries were underway or still ahead. The preview’s figures were estimates, not reported outcomes.

Date in the preview Scheduled item How to read it
Oct. 6 Eurozone retail sales Listed as a scheduled release; the preview does not establish its result.
Oct. 7 U.S. Federal Open Market Committee minutes and consumer credit Listed as scheduled items; the preview does not establish their outcomes.

Oct. 9 Preliminary University of Michigan consumer sentiment Listed as a scheduled release; no result is confirmed by the preview.

The article’s overview also named the ISM Services PMI, but its itemized calendar did not provide a date for it. Do not treat the preview as a live calendar or as evidence of what any release showed.

Governance proposals, token unlocks, and conferences in the roundup

CoinDesk’s Oct. 5 roundup listed the following governance matters. They were proposal or vote descriptions at the time of publication; the preview alone does not establish that any proposal passed or that a vote concluded.

  • Aave: A proposal involving a Sentora-curated lending-market deployment framework described a proposed 50% revenue share for the DAO.
  • AirSwap: A signaling vote concerned Consensys AST sales.
  • Derive: A proposal sought to raise the applicable fee share allocated to weekly DRV buybacks from 35% to 50%.
  • Balancer and CoW: The roundup listed a treasury resolution, without confirming an outcome.

The preview also listed Canton and Stable token unlocks. That listing is not evidence that either unlock occurred. Its conference calendar named Digital Assets Week in London for Oct. 6–7 and TOKEN 2049 in Singapore for Oct. 7–8; those dates are historical entries from the Oct. 5 article, not upcoming-event recommendations.

How to use this dated update

For Bitcoin, separate the reported price movement from CoinDesk’s interpretation of the moving averages; neither should be mistaken for a live quote or a guaranteed trend. For Ethereum, distinguish the Oct. 5 report of a planned Sepolia test from the roadmap’s Q4 target and “In development” status as of Oct. 7. The roundup’s macro releases, governance items, unlocks, and conferences are likewise time-bound previews, not verified results.
