Bitcoin’s approximate price around its four halving events rose from about $12 in 2012 to $64,968.87 listed for April 19, 2024. These are historical reference points, not a synchronized set of daily closes: the sources use different date and price conventions. The figures below identify those limits and show the one-year prices CoinGecko reports for the first three halvings.
Bitcoin’s price around each halving
A halving cuts the new-Bitcoin block subsidy in half at a specified block height. The calendar date depends on when the network reaches that height, so halvings occur roughly every four years rather than on a fixed schedule. The SEC-filed document records the first four dates and block heights; AP describes the recurring 210,000-block interval. SEC-filed document; AP explanation.

CoinGecko’s event and one-year figures are its approximate comparisons, based on CoinGecko price and market-cap data through March 25, 2024; they are not independently recalculated returns or uniform exchange closes. What the one-year comparisons show—and what they do not
CoinGecko’s reported values show higher prices at the cited one-year points than at the approximate event-date starting prices for the first three halvings. Those comparisons describe what happened in those periods; they do not isolate the halving’s effect or establish a repeatable forecast. The cited CoinGecko article predates the first anniversary of the 2024 halving, so it does not provide a comparable 2024 one-year price.

There are only three completed one-year periods in that comparison, and Bitcoin’s price is influenced by many factors. AP reported mixed price action in the first months after earlier halvings and quoted Kaiko research analyst Adam Morgan McCarthy cautioning that the sample of three was not enough to conclude that prices would rise by a particular amount again.
