Who made the decision?
Zo Future Group—formerly known as Birmingham Sports Holdings—was the seller. Immediately before completion, it held approximately 51.72% of Birmingham City Limited, the club’s parent company. Shelby Companies Limited (SCL), a Knighthead subsidiary, was the buyer and became the controlling shareholder.
BBC Sport reported that SCL’s takeover completed on 7 November 2025, leaving it with 96.64% of Birmingham City Limited. The club chairman, Tom Wagner, called the takeover “another important milestone for Knighthead and Birmingham City Football Club.” BBC Sport’s takeover report describes SCL’s acquisition; the seller’s later transaction circular sets out Zo Future Group’s disposal.
What did the transaction include, and what was it worth?
Zo Future Group’s 2026 transaction circular says the disposal covered its shares in Birmingham City Limited and an assigned shareholder loan. The total consideration was approximately £5.0 million. That is the stated value for the shares and assigned debt together—not a figure for the club’s overall valuation.

The circular also reports that Birmingham City’s group revenue for the financial year ended 30 June 2025 was HK$299.3 million, with a loss after tax of HK$410.1 million. These are figures in Hong Kong dollars for that specified accounting year, not the purchase price or a measure of the club’s value.
Why did Zo Future Group say it was exiting?
In its circular, Zo Future Group said the disposal would allow it to exit its investment, be released from obligations and further support requirements, and focus its resources on new-energy vehicle activities. This is the seller’s stated rationale. The available transaction information does not establish that the exit was driven by a particular decision about tickets, transfers, or the club’s future spending.

Does the deal show that current owners made a decision that will upset supporters?
No such conclusion is established by the available reporting. The documented disposal was made by Zo Future Group, the former majority shareholder; SCL was the buyer and became the current controlling shareholder. The sources describe the corporate transaction and the seller’s explanation, but do not include a named supporter response or evidence measuring how Blues supporters reacted. So the suggestion that the decision may irk supporters remains unverified.
