What did Debroy contribute beyond economic policy?
Debroy was also known for scholarship on Indian history and culture, and for translating ancient texts into English, including the Mahabharata and Ramayana. In its November 1, 2024 condolence statement, the Prime Minister’s Office highlighted his interest in making ancient texts accessible to young people.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi described Debroy as “a towering scholar, well-versed in diverse domains like economics, history, culture, politics, spirituality and more.” Modi added that Debroy enjoyed working on ancient texts and making them accessible to the youth. These were the Prime Minister’s words in tribute.
