The proposal was reported as part of a $26 million project, but Bethesda Clinic later opened in March 2023 and suspended services in February 2024. Its website now says it is no longer operational.
What did the 2022 approval cover?
PerthNow reported that stage two was valued at $14.5 million within an overall project value of $26 million. Those were reported project values, not a verified final construction cost. The approved plans described a five-storey addition, with a sixth-level plant area, attached to the southern end of the main building. The addition had a reported footprint of 415 square metres.
Planned stage-two spaces included:
- 30 individual inpatient bedrooms, each with an ensuite
- 14 consulting rooms
- Two recovery rooms
- Storage, toilets, lounge areas and waiting areas
The 2022 report described the overall facility as catering for 75 inpatients and 64 outpatients, with staffing figures of 74 day staff, 14 night staff, 18 consultants and four visiting psychiatrists. What mental health service is currently listed in Cockburn Central?
South Metropolitan Health Service lists Cockburn Health, at 1 Honour Way, Cockburn Central, as a 50-bed inpatient mental health facility for voluntary female patients. This is a public service operated separately from the former Bethesda Clinic; its 50-bed figure describes the listed public facility, not Bethesda’s 2023 service. The reported $26 million is the project’s announced value, not a final audited cost.
