The best scooter grips are the ones that fit your scooter’s bar or throttle sleeve, leave controls clear, and feel right in your hands. Start by identifying whether you have a freestyle kick scooter, an electric commuter scooter, or a twist-throttle model: their grips are not interchangeable by default. The options below are specification-based examples, not an independently tested ranking.
First identify your scooter type
“Scooter grips” covers several fit categories. Madd Gear describes its TPR grips as designed for freestyle or pro stunt scooters and distinguishes them from electric scooter grips, which may use model-specific diameters and mounting systems. A motorcycle-style twist-throttle scooter is another category: its right grip must fit the throttle tube and move freely.
Before ordering, check the handlebar or throttle-sleeve diameter, grip length, available space beside controls, and whether the bar end is open or closed. On a twist-throttle setup, measure and confirm the left and right sides separately; they may require different dimensions.
Compare these specification-based options
| Grip | Published specifications | Fit and selection notes |
|---|---|---|
| Madd Gear 150 mm Trifecta TPR | 150 mm length; three texture zones; nylon bar ends included. Madd Gear says its grips have a “universal standard inner diameter” for virtually all pro scooter bars. | Intended for freestyle/pro stunt scooters. The manufacturer describes the zones as serving palm comfort, finger placement, and bar-spin control; these are design claims, not independently tested results. The “universal” claim does not establish fit on electric or throttle scooters. |
| Madd Gear 180 mm Trifecta TPR | 180 mm length; Trifecta texture design; nylon bar ends included. | Madd Gear suggests the longer version for taller riders or those who prefer a wider hand spread. Check usable bar space and control clearance; this is a preference cue, not a tested fit recommendation. |
| Madd Gear 150 mm TPR Grind | 150 mm length; ribbed, single-texture design; nylon bar ends included. | A freestyle-scooter option for riders who prefer uniform ribbing rather than the Trifecta’s multiple texture zones. |
| Universal Parts 119-235 Razor replacement set | 115 mm left grip, 65 mm right grip, and 21 mm inner diameter; smooth rubber. Listed for specified Razor models and versions. | A specific twist-throttle replacement candidate. Check the listing’s model/version compatibility and measure your scooter before ordering: the unequal lengths accommodate a throttle assembly and are not a universal pair size. See the Scooterworks listing. |
| Domino A350 touring grips | 120 mm length; two-component thermoplastic rubber; listed for 22 mm handlebars and 26 mm throttle tubes. | A motorcycle-style scooter grip category. Those dimensions do not establish compatibility with a freestyle or electric scooter; verify the bar and throttle-tube measurements. See Domino’s product listing. |
For the Madd Gear options, compare the manufacturer’s 150 mm and 180 mm grip collection. Retailer and manufacturer inventory or compatibility details can change, so check the current listing before purchase.

How to choose grips that fit
- Match the category and diameter. Confirm whether the grip is for a freestyle bar, an electric scooter’s specific handlebar system, or a throttle tube. Check the maker’s listed inner diameter and your scooter’s measurements.
- Check both sides and available length. Throttle scooters may use a shorter right grip than left. Measure the clear space on each side, including room for brake levers, switches, and other controls.
- Choose texture and compound by preference. Madd Gear describes different texture zones and a TPR compound in its products. SkatePro notes that extra-soft grips wear faster. These are product and retailer guidance, not comparative laboratory findings.
- Confirm the bar-end arrangement. Check whether the grip is open or closed and whether bar ends are included. SkatePro recommends riding with bar ends and says they help extend bar life, but compatibility depends on bar construction and the supplied end; do not modify a bar end without manufacturer guidance.
- Verify the exact model or version. A replacement part’s fitment list is more useful than a broad “scooter” label. Match your scooter’s model and version to the listing, especially for throttle-side replacements.
How to install scooter grips
- Remove the existing grips and bar ends as needed. Check the bar or throttle tube for damage, residue, and obstructions.
- Follow the grip maker’s installation directions. SkatePro suggests a small amount of a liquid such as window cleaner or hairspray to help slide a grip into place. Madd Gear describes window cleaner or rubbing alcohol for its own grips and advises allowing two to three hours to dry.
- Avoid oil-based lubricants on Madd Gear grips: the manufacturer warns that they can interfere with bonding and cause slipping. Do not assume an installation aid recommended for one grip is suitable for another.
- Allow the installation aid to dry fully before riding, then refit compatible bar ends. On a twist-throttle scooter, turn the throttle through its range and confirm it moves freely and returns normally before use.
When to replace scooter grips
Replace a grip when it is damaged or no longer provides a secure, comfortable hold. Madd Gear lists slickness, flattened texture, cracks or tears, and repeatedly repositioning your hands as warning signs. SkatePro also advises replacement when grips are worn and notes that extra-soft grips wear faster.
Madd Gear recommends monthly inspections and replacement every two to four months for regular training. That is the company’s guidance for its intended use, not a general service interval for every scooter or rider; inspect according to your riding frequency and the grip’s condition.

What the available recommendations can—and cannot—establish
The examples above provide dimensions, intended categories, and manufacturer or retailer selection advice. They do not establish an independently tested “best overall” grip. Fit depends on your scooter’s measurements and controls, while length and texture are personal preferences. Check current product details and compatibility before buying.
