Best Online Master’s in International Business: What the 2022 Rankings Actually Show

The 2022 rankings did not provide one definitive list of online non-MBA master’s degrees in international business. Here’s how to interpret the historical rankings, costs and current program details.

There was no single, apples-to-apples 2022 ranking of online non-MBA master’s degrees specifically in international business. The available lists covered different categories: online business master’s programs excluding MBAs, online MBA programs, and MBA affordability picks with international-business coverage. Those distinctions matter if you are comparing credentials or costs. The examples below are historical, not current recommendations; verify each school’s program, tuition, format, and admissions requirements before applying.

What the 2022 rankings can—and cannot—tell you

U.S. News evaluated 1,651 online programs in its 2022 rankings. WTOP reported that the assessment considered student engagement, student services and technology, faculty credentials and training, and expert opinion about academic quality. Within the online master’s in business programs excluding MBA category, the reported leaders included Indiana University, the University of Southern California, Carnegie Mellon University, and the University of Georgia. These are broad program-category results, not a ranking of international-business degrees specifically. WTOP’s 2022 report.

Florida International University said its online specialized master’s programs ranked No. 13 among public universities in the 2022 U.S. News rankings, and it listed international business among its online master’s specialties. That No. 13 result applies to FIU’s specialized master’s programs as a group; it is not an international-business-specific rank. FIU’s January 25, 2022 announcement.

Historical online MBA options with international-business coverage

GetEducated’s 2022 Best Buys list is a cost-focused list of online MBA programs in international business, not a ranking of non-MBA international-business master’s degrees. Its figures came from a Winter 2021 review and represented full-time tuition and fees specific to the online program at the time of collection. GetEducated noted that some program options had changed since publication. The amounts below are historical listed costs, not current tuition quotes. GetEducated’s 2022 online MBA list.

School and listed program Degree and international-business focus Historical listed cost
Louisiana State University Shreveport Online MBA / International Business $12,474 total listed cost; GetEducated’s 2022 list, based on its Winter 2021 review
University of Louisiana at Lafayette Online MBA / Global Management $12,800.04 total listed cost; GetEducated’s 2022 list, based on its Winter 2021 review
Florida International University Professional MBA / International Business $42,000 listed cost; GetEducated’s 2022 list, based on its Winter 2021 review

These are MBA options, so they may suit someone seeking a broad management degree with international-business study, but they should not be treated as direct substitutes for a specialized M.S. or M.A. in international business.

Why the 2022 online MBA leaders are a separate comparison

Poets&Quants reported that Indiana University Kelley, UNC Kenan-Flagler, and USC Marshall tied for first in the 2022 U.S. News online MBA ranking. That result belongs to the online MBA category; it does not establish a rank for any school’s international-business master’s program. Poets&Quants’ report on the 2022 online MBA ranking.

A current program example is not a 2022 ranking pick

For a practical illustration of what to verify directly with a university, the University of Delaware’s official program page, accessed October 8, 2026, lists a fully online M.S. in International Business alongside on-campus and hybrid formats. Its online option is 30 credits, with estimated tuition of $34,470 at $1,149 per credit; fees and living costs are additional. The page says full-time students may finish in as few as nine months, while part-time study is also available, and identifies the Lerner College as AACSB-accredited. These are current page details, not 2022 ranking or pricing data. University of Delaware M.S. in International Business.

The University of Delaware page also characterizes fewer than 6% of business schools worldwide as AACSB-accredited. That is the university’s characterization, not an independently evaluated statistic here. Confirm accreditation and all program terms with the school before relying on them.

How to compare programs before you apply

Start by deciding which credential matches your goals: a specialized international-business master’s or an MBA that includes an international focus. Then compare like with like using details published by each university, rather than carrying a broad category rank over to a specific specialty.

  • Degree and focus: Is international business the degree itself, a concentration, or a set of electives within an MBA?
  • Online format: Is the program fully online, or does it require campus visits or synchronous attendance?
  • Total cost: Check tuition per credit, total required credits, mandatory fees, and whether the quoted amount applies to online students and your residency status.
  • Time to completion: Confirm the typical pace and whether the advertised fastest completion assumes full-time enrollment.
  • Curriculum and support: Review course requirements, experiential opportunities, career services, and the school’s stated admissions criteria.
  • Ranking context: Record the publisher, year, program category, and methodology. A school’s broad online-business position is not a specialty ranking.

Because the historical sources do not provide a comprehensive, comparable list of non-MBA international-business master’s programs, they cannot support a definitive set of 2022 specialty “top picks.” Use them as context for how different lists were constructed, then check current official program pages for decisions today.
