The 2025 Genesis Electrified GV70 is the luxury car award winner on this list—but it is an electric SUV, not a conventional sedan. Cars.com named it Best Luxury Car of 2025, while Car and Driver’s segment-based Editors’ Choice picks span sedans, SUVs, EVs and sports cars. These ten choices are style-led recommendations, not a universal ranking: the right one depends on the shape, driving character and ownership costs you want.
How to read this 2025 shortlist
“Head-turning” is an editorial description of design and presence, not a measured score or formal award. Car and Driver evaluates vehicles against competitors in their own segments, drawing on instrumented tests and editors’ real-world driving observations. Cars.com uses its own annual award criteria; it named the Electrified GV70 its Best Luxury Car of 2025. Those judgments are useful starting points, not a single agreed ranking. SUVs, sedans and sports cars are not direct substitutes.

1. Genesis Electrified GV70 — electric luxury SUV
Cars.com’s 2025 Best Luxury Car winner combines SUV utility with dual-motor all-wheel drive and 429 horsepower. Cars.com lists a 77.4-kWh battery, an estimated 236-mile range and 91 MPGe combined for the 2025 model. It reports a starting-price range of $68,400–$75,200, including destination, and a claimed 10-to-80-percent charge time of 18 minutes in optimal conditions. Those are publisher-reported model figures, not a guarantee of real-world range or charging time.
#1 Best Overall
- Model size: 21 x 8.5 x 6.5 cm
- Material: polished stainless steel.
- Number of pieces: 146 pieces.
- Recommended age: 14+
Cars.com praises the cabin materials, ride and charging capability, while acknowledging that range is middle-of-the-road. Car and Driver also likes the styling, luxury and performance, but flags range versus rival electric SUVs and brake-pedal feel. Consider it if a premium electric SUV suits your routine and you can charge conveniently; compare the range with your actual driving and charging options.
2. BMW X5 — midsize luxury SUV
The X5 is a strong choice for buyers who want a well-finished, technology-rich SUV with powerful engine options. Car and Driver praises its deluxe interior and powertrain choices, but says it is less nimble than expected from BMW and does not offer a third row. The V-8 option is expensive. If you need seats for more than five, look elsewhere rather than assuming this SUV can accommodate a larger family.

3. Genesis GV80 — midsize luxury SUV
Car and Driver highlights the GV80’s interior and exterior design and its value proposition. The reviewed lineup is gasoline-only. A third row is optional, but limited for adults and unavailable with the turbo-four powertrain. It suits shoppers drawn to a distinctive-looking, upscale two-row SUV who may only occasionally need extra seats—not buyers who depend on a roomy third row.

The 3-Series brings agile handling and two potent engine choices, according to Car and Driver. Its editors would like more steering feel, and desirable driver-assistance features cost extra. It is worth considering if a compact sedan that feels engaging to drive matters more than maximum interior space; build the options you want into the comparison rather than judging only the base vehicle.

5. Mercedes-Benz E450 — refined midsize luxury sedan
For quiet, comfortable highway travel, Car and Driver praises the E450’s smooth, powerful inline-six. In the publication’s test for its 2025 10Best coverage, it accelerated from 0 to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds and completed the quarter mile in 13.0 seconds at 109 mph. These are Car and Driver test results, not manufacturer claims or a promise that every car will reproduce them.
6. Lucid Air — electric luxury sedan
The Air pairs quiet performance with cabin materials that Car and Driver praises. Its main ergonomic compromise is a heavy reliance on screens and few physical controls. Car and Driver reported more than 400 miles of EPA range for the Pure and Touring trims in its 2025 10Best coverage; range varies by configuration. Confirm the specific trim’s current EPA figure before comparing it with another EV.

7. Aston Martin Vantage — luxury sports car
Car and Driver points to the Vantage’s striking looks, lively handling and powerful V-8. The trade-offs are high pricing and no manual transmission. It is a style- and performance-led choice rather than a practical all-purpose luxury car; make sure the price and automatic-only setup fit what you want from a sports car.

8. Maserati GranTurismo — grand touring coupe
The GranTurismo is a grand touring coupe for buyers who want dramatic styling with a balance of comfort and athleticism. Car and Driver praises its richly appointed interior and seductive design, while flagging steep pricing and touchscreen-heavy controls. Consider whether those controls work for you in person, since interface preferences are difficult to settle from specifications alone.

9. Audi Q7 — three-row luxury SUV
Car and Driver likes the Q7’s engaging road manners, premium interior and technology. Its compromises are a tight third row for adults, less cargo space than some rivals and premium pricing. It makes sense for shoppers who need the flexibility of a third row, but not as a substitute for a larger vehicle if adults will use those seats regularly.
10. BMW iX — electric luxury SUV
The iX offers a plush ride, substantial range and a technology-forward interior, according to Car and Driver. Its exterior styling is divisive, so it is a particularly personal choice: see it in person and check the configuration-specific range and equipment before deciding.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Match the car to the way you will use it
- For electric SUV utility: Compare the Electrified GV70 with the iX, paying attention to the GV70’s Cars.com-reported estimated 236-mile range and the iX’s configuration-specific range.
- For a third row: The Q7 and GV80 offer one, but the Q7’s adult third row is tight and the GV80’s is limited and powertrain-dependent. The X5 has no third row.
- For quiet, refined highway driving: The E450 is the sedan Car and Driver specifically describes as comfortable and quiet at highway speeds.
- For a performance-led, conspicuous choice: The Vantage and GranTurismo prioritize sports-car or grand-touring character over everyday versatility.
- For a compact sedan: The 3-Series emphasizes agile handling; make sure its optional driver-assistance equipment is included in the vehicle you price.
What to check before you buy
A 2025 model-year award or specification does not establish what a car costs or whether a new example is still available where you live. Before committing, compare the exact trim and options in current local listings, check whether the vehicle is new, used or certified pre-owned, and verify the current model-year or vehicle-specific specifications. For an EV, consider whether your regular routes and charging access fit its actual range; for a third-row SUV, try the seats with the passengers who will use them.
