The Joolz Aer² with Cot is The Bump’s overall travel-stroller pick in its guide updated July 28, 2026. It offers a newborn-to-toddler setup, but weighs 18.7 lb with the cot attached; in seat mode, the reported weight is 14.3 lb. If low weight and a lower-cost setup matter more, The Bump’s budget pick, the 11.5 lb Mompush Nexis Carbon, is worth comparing. Neither is a universal best: the right choice depends on your child’s age, how much you will carry, and whether the stroller will also handle everyday errands.
How to choose a lightweight travel stroller
Start with the stroller in the configuration you will actually use. A frame’s advertised weight can leave out a carrycot or newborn accessories, and those additions can change both the lifting weight and folded size. Then check whether the seat fits your child, whether the fold works for your travel routine, and whether the wheels and storage suit the places you go.
The Bump’s 2026 audience survey found that 75 percent of surveyed mothers wanted a travel stroller that was easy to pick up and carry, while 45 percent listed an ultra-compact fold among their must-haves. Those are survey results, not population-wide estimates, but they point to the practical trade-off: a compact stroller is easier to manage in transit, while a roomier everyday model may offer more seat space, storage, or capability on uneven ground.
Travel stroller comparison
| Model and role | Weight and folded size | Age and capacity | Fold and storage notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Joolz Aer² with Cot — The Bump’s overall pick | 14.3 lb in seat mode; 18.7 lb with carrycot. Folded dimensions with seat: 20.9 × 17.3 × 9.2 in. | The Bump describes it as a from-birth-to-toddler option with the carrycot. Carrycot is not approved for overnight sleep in the US. | The carrycot folds with the frame, but The Bump says the cot-attached fold is slightly too long for the cited IATA overhead-bin recommendation; pack the cot separately if aiming for overhead storage. |
| Mompush Nexis Carbon — The Bump’s budget-friendly pick | 11.5 lb; folded dimensions: 19 × 18.1 × 7.9 in. | 50 lb child capacity; included carriage mode for birth use. | The specification does not describe a one-handed fold; The Bump’s tester found it manageable in use. Basket capacity is 13.2 lb and it loads from the front. |
| Stokke YOYO3 with Newborn Pack — The Bump’s newborn pick | Not stated in the cited guide material. | The Bump identifies this newborn configuration as its newborn pick. | The Bump describes the setup as especially compact. Confirm current model specifications and configuration with the manufacturer. |

Which stroller fits your trip and budget?
Choose the Joolz Aer² with Cot for a newborn-to-toddler setup
The Joolz is the source-attributed overall pick if you want a cot-based from-birth configuration and a stroller that can continue into toddler use. The trade-off is that the cot adds 4.4 lb compared with the seat-mode weight reported by The Bump, and the cot-attached fold is longer than the cited overhead-bin recommendation. If you expect to lift the stroller frequently, compare the weight of the exact setup you will carry—not just the seat-mode figure.
Consider the Mompush Nexis Carbon when low weight matters most
At 11.5 lb, the Mompush is the lower-weight option among the two models with weights stated here, and The Bump names it its budget-friendly choice. Its included carriage mode makes it a candidate for birth use, but check the maker’s instructions for the exact setup and your child. The specified fold is not one-handed, and the front-loaded basket may matter if you need frequent access or carry heavier items.

Match the child’s age to the exact configuration
“From birth” is not a blanket feature of every travel stroller. A newborn may need a specific carrycot, newborn pack, or carriage mode, while a toddler-oriented seat may have a minimum age. The Bump says the Butterfly 2 is unsuitable under six months; use manufacturer instructions to confirm the appropriate configuration, age, and weight limits for any model.
Can you take a travel stroller on a plane?
Maybe, but folded dimensions alone do not guarantee cabin storage. The Bump cites IATA-recommended overhead-bin dimensions of 22 × 18 × 10 in. The Joolz Aer² folded with its seat measures 20.9 × 17.3 × 9.2 in, within those dimensions; with the cot attached, The Bump says it is slightly too long. That comparison is only a guide: airline policies differ, aircraft bins vary, overhead space can fill, and crew decisions apply.

Check the operating airline’s current stroller and cabin-baggage rules for every flight segment, including regional aircraft. Have a gate-check plan even if your stroller appears to fit. A compatible padded travel bag is an optional way to transport a stroller that may be gate-checked, but it does not remove handling risk. A baby carrier can also be useful for moving through the airport while the stroller is folded.
In The Bump’s 2026 survey, 56 percent of surveyed parents said they fly with their stroller. Among those parents, 40 percent said they had been able to take it onboard; that 40 percent applies only to the subgroup who fly with a stroller, not all surveyed parents.

What lightweight strollers trade away
Small wheels and narrow frames help reduce bulk, but can be less suited to gravel, grass, uneven sidewalks, or heavier loads. A smaller design may also mean less seat room or a smaller basket than a full-size stroller. If you will use it daily as well as on trips, weigh those compromises against the convenience of carrying and folding it. As Joan Muratore, Consumer Reports test program leader, told The Bump: “Think about how you plan to use the stroller. Is it specifically for a trip or will you use it as an everyday stroller too? Your needs may differ in those situations.”
Safety checks before using or traveling with a stroller
- Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for the child’s age and weight, the permitted configuration, and terrain.
- Use the harness and brakes as directed, and avoid loads that exceed the stated limits.
- Check current safety information and recall status for the specific model before purchase and use. The sources cited here do not establish current compliance or recall status for the named strollers.
- Do not infer that a stroller is airline-approved or guaranteed cabin baggage from its dimensions alone.
For general selection and safety guidance, see Travel + Leisure’s travel-stroller guide. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s business guidance for carriages and strollers explains relevant product-safety guidance; it is not a model-specific certification or recall check.
