There is no single evidence-backed winner for every student choosing an IT or computer science degree in Pakistan. The right choice depends on the exact degree and campus, whether the program is recognized and accredited for your admission batch, your eligibility, and what you can afford in fees and living costs. Compare those factors before treating any ranking or test result as a verdict.
How to compare computing universities fairly
Start by comparing like with like. A BS Computer Science program is not interchangeable with Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Information Technology, or Data Science. Decide which degree and subjects suit your goals, then check the campus where you would actually study.
- Degree and curriculum: Check the required courses, electives, internship, and final-year project for the specific program.
- Campus and location: Consider travel, housing, and whether the campus works for your circumstances.
- Recognition and accreditation: Verify both the campus and the exact program and admission batch.
- Admissions fit: Check eligibility, tests, interviews, deadlines, and the university’s current policy.
- Total cost and aid: Compare tuition and other charges with transport or housing costs, and ask about financial aid and scholarship eligibility.
The official sources linked here do not provide a consistent cross-university comparison of total fees, scholarships, graduate employment, or student experience. Request current figures directly from each university rather than assuming that reputation or a test result tells you what a degree will cost or lead to.
Verify the campus and the exact program
Check HEC recognition by campus
Use the Higher Education Commission’s recognized campuses list to confirm the location where you plan to enroll. The list includes campus-specific details and, for some entries, program, intake, or validity conditions. A university’s name alone does not establish that every campus or degree is covered. The listing can change, so check it again when applying.
#1 Best Overall
For example, HEC lists FAST-NUCES locations including Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar, and Chiniot, and includes a time-limited validity note for its Multan sub-campus. Treat that as a reason to verify the current entry, not as a permanent statement about the campus.
Check NCEAC accreditation for your admission batch
The National Computing Education Accreditation Council (NCEAC) accredits bachelor-level computing programs. Check its official site for the specific program, campus, and approved batches relevant to your intake. A general claim that a department is accredited is not enough to confirm the status of a new cohort. NCEAC’s campus record example illustrates the batch-level detail to look for; it is not a substitute for checking the record for your own program.
Rank #2
ITU’s accreditation page lists BS Computer Science, BS Artificial Intelligence, and BS Software Engineering under NCEAC/HEC accreditation. Use that as a program inventory, then cross-check the current cohort details with NCEAC.
Check eligibility and the degree structure
Admissions baseline
HEC’s 2025 Computer Science curriculum booklet gives the general baseline for BS computing admissions as 12 years of schooling or an equivalent qualification, at least 50% marks, and Mathematics. Applicants who did not study Mathematics at intermediate level need six credit hours of deficiency Mathematics. The same booklet notes that universities or admission authorities may require an entry test, interview, aptitude assessment, or other criteria. Confirm the current requirements with the university: the HEC baseline does not replace institution-specific admissions rules. See the HEC Computer Science curriculum booklet.
Rank #3
What a BS Computer Science program includes
The HEC 2025 curriculum specifies a minimum of four years and eight semesters, with at least 130 credit hours for BS Computer Science. It includes computing core courses, electives, an internship, and a capstone or final-year project. Compare the actual study plan at each university: the degree title alone does not show which electives or project options are available.
Use university examples as starting points, not a ranking
NUST
NUST’s undergraduate admissions hub links to admissions policy and covers programs across Computing and Information Technology as well as other fields. Use it to check the current intake’s programs, requirements, and dates; the admissions page by itself does not establish that NUST is the best choice for every student.
Rank #4
ITU
ITU’s accreditation inventory can help you identify computing degrees to investigate, including BS Computer Science, BS Artificial Intelligence, and BS Software Engineering. Confirm the program and batch against NCEAC’s current records before relying on an accreditation claim.
FAST-NUCES
FAST-NUCES is included in HEC’s campus listing and in HEC’s National Skills Competency Test results. Those facts can help you decide what to verify, but neither campus presence nor a single test result is a complete measure of program quality. Check the particular FAST campus and cohort you are considering.

What HEC’s National Skills Competency Test results can—and cannot—tell you
HEC’s 2026 National Skills Competency Test (NSCT) report provides one assessment signal, not a comprehensive university ranking. The percentages below are institutional pass rates reported for the 2026 test; they are not graduate employment rates or proof of overall program quality.
| Institution | NSCT pass rate reported for 2026 |
|---|---|
| Habib University | 96.5% (HEC’s 2026 NSCT report) |
| Information Technology University of the Punjab (ITU) | 90.4% (HEC’s 2026 NSCT report) |
| FAST-NUCES | 89.5% (HEC’s 2026 NSCT report) |
| National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) | 89.2% (HEC’s 2026 NSCT report) |
The same HEC report’s historical comparison lists a 94.0% pass rate for FAST and 90.0% for NUST in the 2024 test results. The difference from the 2026 figures is a reminder that test-based standings can shift across years and cohorts. Read the HEC NSCT overview report for the test context, and do not treat these percentages as a full comparison of teaching, research, fees, student experience, or career outcomes.
Make the financial comparison before accepting an offer
Because the linked official sources do not give a consistent current fee comparison, build one from each university’s current fee schedule and financial-aid information. Compare the same period and include costs beyond tuition so an apparently affordable option does not hide a larger total commitment.
- Tuition and compulsory charges for the full study period, including any stated fee changes.
- Application, admission, examination, laboratory, or other required charges.
- Transport or housing, meals, and other location-related costs.
- Scholarships, grants, or financial aid for which you meet the stated eligibility criteria, including renewal conditions.
- Payment deadlines and the amount due before classes begin.
Ask each admissions or finance office for the current schedule and written aid conditions. Compare your likely net cost, not an assumed scholarship or a headline tuition figure.

Quick Recap
Application checklist
- Choose the degree: Identify whether you want Computer Science, IT, Software Engineering, AI, Data Science, or another computing field.
- Confirm the campus: Find the exact location on HEC’s current recognized-campus list and check any conditions or validity notes.
- Confirm the cohort: Look up the program, campus, and admission batch in NCEAC’s records.
- Check your eligibility: Compare your schooling, marks, and Mathematics background with HEC’s baseline and the university’s current rules.
- Check admissions details: Confirm tests, interviews, deadlines, required documents, and the policy for your intake.
- Compare course plans: Review core courses, electives, internship arrangements, and the capstone or final-year project.
