T-Mobile and AT&T had the largest advertised March 2026 discounts—up to $1,100 with eligible trade-ins and qualifying plans—while Apple offered an unlocked option with up to $700 in trade-in credit. The strongest deal depended on plan costs, trade-in value, and how long you had to stay with a carrier to receive bill credits.
This is a historical roundup based on a March 16, 2026 snapshot; the research desk checked subsequent offer information through August 8, 2026. Promotions may have expired or changed since then, so confirm current terms with the provider before applying.
Best iPhone 17 deals from March 2026
| Provider | March offer | Typical requirement | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| T-Mobile | Up to $1,100 off an iPhone 17-series phone | Eligible trade-in and qualifying higher-tier unlimited plan | Existing or new customers willing to stay with T-Mobile |
| AT&T | Up to $1,100 off eligible iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max models; reported $200 online gift card for new customers | Eligible trade-in and unlimited plan | Trade-in customers switching to AT&T |
| Apple | Up to $700 in trade-in credit toward the iPhone 17 series | Qualifying trade-in | Buyers who want an unlocked phone |
| Boost Mobile | Up to $830 off through Infinite Access for iPhone | $65-per-month plan; no usual trade-in requirement | Buyers who did not have a trade-in |
| Red Pocket | $150 rebate | Bundle the phone with a Plus, Premium, or Elite plan | Prepaid customers |
| Xfinity Mobile | Up to $830 off with a qualifying trade-in; iPhone 17e listed as free with a new line | Trade-in and unlimited-data plan for the larger promotion | Existing Xfinity customers or households already using its services |
According to TechRadar’s March 16 roundup, T-Mobile and AT&T had the largest advertised maximum discounts, at up to $1,100. Those figures should not be treated as an immediate $1,100 reduction at checkout. They generally represented promotional bill credits spread over the phone’s installment period.
1. T-Mobile: strongest March trade-in promotion
TechRadar’s March roundup reported that T-Mobile advertised up to $1,100 off an iPhone 17-series device when customers traded in an eligible phone and selected a qualifying higher-tier unlimited plan.

- Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
This was potentially the highest-value offer for someone who already wanted T-Mobile’s service and had a trade-in worth enough to qualify. The financial catch is the plan requirement: a larger phone discount can be offset by paying more for service than you would with a cheaper plan or another carrier.
Before accepting the offer, compare:
- the monthly service price for the required plan;
- the phone installment amount before promotional credits;
- the number of months over which credits are paid;
- the value of your trade-in if sold privately; and
- the remaining credits you would lose if you leave early.
2. AT&T: up to $1,100 off, plus a reported new-customer incentive
TechRadar’s March listing reported that AT&T offered up to $1,100 off eligible iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max purchases with an eligible trade-in and an unlimited plan. It also reported a $200 online e-gift card for new customers.
AT&T’s offer structure illustrates why “free” phone comparisons need care. Its representative offer language describes 36 monthly installment payments at 0% APR, with promotional credits applied over time. Taxes are due on the phone’s full price at sale—not necessarily on the discounted amount.
Someone switching to AT&T should value the gift card separately from the phone discount. A gift card may improve the first-year value, but it does not reduce the required monthly service cost or guarantee that the phone will be paid off if you cancel.

TechRadar’s March 16 deal snapshot reported that Apple advertised up to $700 in trade-in credit toward the iPhone 17 series. An iPhone purchased directly from Apple is unlocked, which makes this the cleanest choice for buyers who may change carriers, travel internationally, or prefer not to depend on monthly promotional credits.
The trade-in amount is an estimate until Apple receives and checks the device. Apple’s trade-in terms generally require the trade-in to arrive within 14 days after the replacement phone arrives. If the condition does not match the description, Apple can reduce the credit or charge the difference to the original payment method.

- The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charger and charging cable.
Apple’s credit timing also depends on how you pay:
- Paid in full: Apple applies the credit after receiving and verifying the trade-in.
- Monthly payments: the estimated credit is applied to the purchase price first, but Apple can later charge the difference if the device is in worse condition than described.
For a financial comparison, calculate Apple’s net phone price as:
Phone price − confirmed trade-in credit + taxes and any financing costs.
Then compare that figure with the required carrier-plan cost—not merely with a carrier’s advertised phone price.
4. Boost Mobile: best March option without a trade-in
According to TechRadar’s March snapshot, Boost Mobile offered up to $830 off an iPhone 17-series model through its Infinite Access for iPhone plan. The plan was listed at $65 per month and did not require the usual trade-in.
Boost later stated in its published terms that Infinite Access for iPhone was no longer offered to new customers effective June 30, 2026. It should therefore be treated as a historical March promotion, not an offer available to new customers as of the research check on August 8.

Do not assume that avoiding a trade-in means avoiding a commitment. Check the plan’s installment terms, the length of the promotional credits, and what happens to the phone balance if you cancel or switch service.
5. Red Pocket: smaller discount with a prepaid structure
TechRadar’s March snapshot reported that Red Pocket advertised a $150 rebate when an iPhone 17-series phone was bundled with its Plus, Premium, or Elite plan. Additional trade-in credit could be available, but the rebate depended on selecting a qualifying plan.
A prepaid rebate can be easier to evaluate than a carrier bill-credit promotion because the discount is separate from a long financing commitment. Still, confirm the rebate’s submission deadline, payment timing, eligible phone models, and required months of service before treating the $150 as guaranteed savings.
6. Xfinity Mobile: useful mainly for existing Xfinity households
TechRadar’s March listing reported that Xfinity Mobile offered up to $830 off with a qualifying trade-in and unlimited-data plan. It also said the iPhone 17e could be free with a new line.

| Provider | March 17e offer | Key condition |
|---|---|---|
| Verizon | Free iPhone 17e | New line on an eligible unlimited plan; the March listing said no trade-in was required |
| T-Mobile | Free iPhone 17e for switchers; up to $830 off for existing customers | Switchers needed an unlimited line; existing customers needed an eligible trade-in |
| AT&T | $5.99 per month, listed down from $16.67 per month | New unlimited-data line; no trade-in requirement was stated in the March listing |
| Apple | Up to $685 in trade-in credit | A sufficiently valuable trade-in could cover the $599 starting price |
TechRadar’s March 17e deal listing reported that Verizon’s offer applied across its myPlan unlimited tiers, including Welcome Unlimited, and did not require a trade-in. T-Mobile also promoted “Four iPhone 17 on Us” for four devices on its Essentials plan at $25 per line per month, subject to the offer’s conditions.
These deals still require a careful monthly-cost calculation. Four lines at $25 per line equals $100 per month before taxes, fees, and any other account charges. The phone credits may also depend on keeping each line active for the full promotional period.
How to compare a “free” iPhone with an unlocked purchase
- Write down the phone’s full retail price. Do not start with the promotional monthly payment.
- Subtract only the trade-in value you can reasonably expect. Use the provider’s estimate, but allow for a condition adjustment.
- Identify the credit period. A phone advertised as free may require 24 or 36 monthly credits.
- Price the required service. Compare the qualifying plan with the cheapest plan you would otherwise choose.
- Add taxes and fees. Carrier promotions may still charge taxes based on the phone’s full price at sale.
- Account for switching risk. Ask whether canceling service stops future credits and leaves an unpaid phone balance.
- Check the unlock policy. An Apple purchase is unlocked; carrier-financed devices may remain subject to installment and unlocking rules.
A useful comparison is:
Total deal cost = upfront taxes and fees + required service cost during the credit period + phone payments not covered by credits − reliable rebates.
For an Apple purchase, replace “required service cost” with the wireless plan you would choose independently. This prevents a carrier’s $0 phone claim from being compared with Apple’s full retail price as if the two offers had the same obligations.

- Whether the exact iPhone 17 model and storage capacity qualify.
- Whether your trade-in model, condition, and remaining financing balance qualify.
- Whether the promotion applies to new lines, upgrades, switchers, or only existing customers.
- Whether the plan must remain active for the entire credit period.
- Whether credits begin immediately or after the carrier receives and approves the trade-in.
- Whether taxes are calculated on the original phone price.
- Whether a rebate requires a separate online claim.
- What happens to credits, the phone balance, and unlocking if you cancel.
Save a copy of the offer shown at checkout. Carrier promotions change frequently, and the offer summary is more useful than a headline that says “up to” a particular amount.
FAQ

Did “free” iPhone 17 offers mean the phone cost nothing immediately?
Usually not. The phone was generally financed, with promotional credits applied to monthly installments. Customers could still owe taxes on the full phone price and could lose future credits if they canceled service early. AT&T’s offer terms illustrate the installment and tax structure.
Was Boost Mobile’s $830 iPhone 17 discount still available in August 2026?
The March offer used Boost’s Infinite Access for iPhone plan, listed at $65 per month. Boost’s published terms said the plan was no longer offered to new customers effective June 30, 2026, so it should not be treated as a current promotion based on the August 8 research check.
Is buying an iPhone 17 from Apple cheaper than using a carrier deal?
It depends on the wireless plan and trade-in. Apple’s phone is unlocked and avoids carrier bill-credit commitments, but the upfront price may be higher. Compare Apple’s net price after trade-in with the carrier’s required service costs, taxes, installment period, and cancellation rules.
The Bottom Line
For March 2026, T-Mobile and AT&T had the biggest advertised iPhone 17 discounts, while Apple offered the most straightforward unlocked purchase. Boost stood out for avoiding a trade-in, Red Pocket offered a smaller prepaid rebate, and Verizon and T-Mobile had notable iPhone 17e promotions, as reported in TechRadar’s March deal roundup.
The financially best deal depended on more than the largest discount. Before choosing, total the required plan cost, taxes, financing period, trade-in risk, and the value of any credits you would lose by leaving early. These offers are historical; verify current terms at checkout.
