T3’s May 15, 2026 buying guide names the Built For Athletes Large Gym Backpack as its current favorite, with the Stubble & Co Kit Bag and Adidas Essentials 3-Stripes Duffel Bag as alternatives. Those are T3’s recommendations, not results of independent testing for this article; choose among them by matching the format, organization and size to your routine.
Which gym bag should you choose?
- For a backpack format and commute organization: T3’s top pick is the Built For Athletes Large Gym Backpack. T3 reports a laptop compartment, two bottle holders and 45-litre capacity, but also says its full opening can be awkward in a busy gym.
- For convertible carry: T3 includes the Stubble & Co Kit Bag, described as convertible between duffel and backpack carry, with a laptop sleeve and water-resistant exterior. Its shoe-compartment description is inconsistent on the T3 page, so verify that feature before buying. The page also gives conflicting capacities; this article does not assign it a volume.
- For a roomy duffel at a reported low price: T3 lists the Adidas Essentials 3-Stripes Duffel Bag at 51 litres, with a side shoe section and front zip pocket. T3 reported a £35 price in 2026; price, availability and product version can vary by date and market, so check the current UK listing before purchasing.
These recommendations and specifications are attributed to T3’s May 15, 2026 guide. They are not independently verified current manufacturer specifications.

How to choose a gym bag for your routine
Start with the load, not the biggest capacity
List what you carry on an ordinary training day: workout clothes, shoes, towel, toiletries, water bottle and any work or study items. Under Armour’s gym-bag guide recommends considering capacity in relation to what the bag needs to carry. A larger volume can help if you bring a full change and work gear, but it can also be inconvenient to store. Check the bag’s dimensions against your gym locker and your commute, rather than treating litres alone as a fit guarantee.
Pick a format that suits the journey
Backpacks distribute weight across both shoulders and can be convenient when you walk, cycle or take transit. Duffels give easy access to a main compartment and suit people who prefer carrying a bag by hand or shoulder. A tote is another option if you want open, simple access and carry a lighter load. The T3 shortlist spans backpack and duffel formats, including one convertible option; try the intended carry method with your typical load if possible.

#1 Best Overall
Separate shoes, laundry and wet gear deliberately
A dedicated shoe section can keep footwear apart from clean clothes, but it is not automatically a wet/dry compartment. Under Armour treats shoe and laundry compartments as distinct organizational features. If you carry swimwear or sweaty clothes, check that the bag has a separate compartment suitable for that use and understand how it closes and cleans. For the Stubble & Co Kit Bag, T3’s page is inconsistent about whether a shoe compartment is included, so confirm the exact model’s construction with the seller or manufacturer.
Check commute essentials and materials
If the bag doubles as a work bag, inspect the laptop compartment or sleeve dimensions, bottle storage, and whether the carry options work for the full trip. T3 describes laptop storage and bottle holders on its Built For Athletes pick, and a laptop sleeve on the Stubble & Co bag. A water-resistant exterior may help with splashes, but the description alone does not establish that a bag is waterproof or that its compartments protect contents from heavy rain.

Before you buy
- Confirm the model and size: product names and specifications can differ between listings and regions.
- Check the bag’s external dimensions against your locker, commute storage and any airline limits that matter to you.
- Verify that a shoe or wet-gear compartment is actually included and suits what you intend to store.
- For laptop carry, compare sleeve dimensions with your device rather than relying only on the word “laptop.”
- Compare the current local price and returns policy; the £35 Adidas figure is T3’s 2026 report, not a guaranteed current price.
