Cheap hosting is only cheap if the renewal bill, required prepayment, email charges, domain costs, and upgrade path fit your budget. The lowest advertised price in this comparison is not automatically the best deal: IONOS Plus is promoted at $1 per month, while SiteGround’s $2.99 introductory rate renews at $17.99 per month.
This list compares U.S. advertised shared and web-hosting prices checked August 8, 2026. Promotional prices generally require paying for a full term upfront and may exclude taxes, domain renewals, and optional services.
Best cheap web hosting: quick picks
| Provider | Best for | Entry plan and advertised price | Renewal price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hostinger | Best overall value for beginners | Premium: $2.99/month on a 48-month term | $10.99/month |
| Namecheap | Lowest predictable shared-hosting cost | Stellar: advertised at $2.28/month | $5.88/month or $55.88/year |
| DreamHost | WordPress beginners and small sites | Web Hosting Launch: $2.89/month for the first year | $10.99/month |
| IONOS | Lowest first-year promotional price | Plus: $1/month on a one-year term | $14/month |
| SiteGround | Managed WordPress support | StartUp: $2.99/month prepaid for 12 months | $17.99/month |
| GreenGeeks | Eco-conscious small sites | Lite: $2.95/month prepaid for 12 months | $13.95/month |
| HostGator | Cheap cPanel hosting with phone support | Hatchling: from $2.75/month | $6.95/month |
| Bluehost | A first WordPress site with guided setup | Verify current plan and price at checkout | Verify at checkout |
| InMotion Hosting | Small business sites needing storage | Core: approximately $3.19/month on a promotional term | Check current pricing page |
| Hosting.com | A low introductory price on basic hosting | Startup: listed at $1.99/month | $10.99/month |
These are monthly-equivalent prices, not necessarily monthly payment options. For example, Hostinger’s $2.99 rate requires 48 months upfront, or about $143.52 before taxes and extras. GreenGeeks and SiteGround require a 12-month prepayment, costing about $35.40 and $35.88 respectively at the advertised rates.
1. Hostinger — best overall value for beginners
Hostinger Premium is the strongest all-around low-cost choice when you want to host more than one small site without paying for a premium plan. The advertised rate is $2.99 per month on a 48-month term. That means the headline price requires a substantial upfront commitment, and the plan renews at $10.99 per month.

- Easily store and access 2TB to content on the go with the Seagate Portable Drive, a USB external hard drive
- Designed to work with Windows or Mac computers, this external hard drive makes backup a snap just drag and drop
- To get set up, connect the portable hard drive to a computer for automatic recognition no software required
- This USB drive provides plug and play simplicity with the included 18 inch USB 3.0 cable
- The available storage capacity may vary.
- Websites: 3
- Storage: 20 GB
- Resources: 2 GB RAM and 1 CPU core
- Databases: 10
- Bandwidth: listed as unlimited, subject to resource and fair-use limits
- Included: SSL, migration, daily backups, and a 30-day money-back guarantee
- Control panel: Hostinger’s hPanel
- Email: current limits list two mailboxes on Premium during the included period
Hostinger’s current limits are lower than figures found in many older reviews. New Premium purchases should not be described as including 100 websites or 100 GB of storage. It is a good fit for a portfolio, blog, small business site, or a few low-traffic projects. If you need more websites or storage, Business supports 50 websites and 50 GB under the newer limits.
2. Namecheap — best for predictable ongoing cost
Namecheap Stellar is a practical choice if you want to avoid an especially large renewal jump. The advertised comparison price is $2.28 per month, while Namecheap’s current plan table lists the regular price as $5.88 per month or $55.88 per year.
- Websites/domains: up to 3 hosted domains
- Storage: 20 GB SSD
- Bandwidth: unmetered, subject to shared-server limits
- Email: up to 50 mailboxes
- Included: 30-day money-back guarantee
The main financial advantage is clarity: the regular annual price is much lower than the renewal prices on several managed WordPress hosts. Namecheap’s current shared tiers are Stellar, Stellar Plus, and Stellar Business. Articles recommending obsolete Value, Professional, Ultimate, or Business SSD plans are using old plan names.
3. DreamHost — best for WordPress beginners and small sites
DreamHost’s current Web Hosting Launch plan costs $2.89 per month for the first annual term, or approximately $34.68 before taxes and add-ons. It renews at $10.99 per month.
- Websites: 25
- Storage: 25 GB NVMe
- Bandwidth: unmetered, subject to shared-resource limits
- Backups: daily automated backups are listed
- Included: SSL, a domain for the first year, and a 30-day money-back guarantee
- Email: included for the first three months, then a paid email plan is automatically added
That email condition matters if you are budgeting for a business address. The free domain also normally covers only the first registration year; renewal is charged at the standard rate. DreamHost’s older Shared Starter and Shared Unlimited plans are not available for new purchases. New customers choose Web Hosting Launch, Growth, or Scale instead.
4. IONOS — cheapest first-year promotion
IONOS has the lowest advertised first-year price in this group when you select the current Plus promotion: $1 per month on a one-year term. The same plan renews at $14 per month, so the second year costs dramatically more than the first.
IONOS also lists Essential at $4 per month, Starter at $6, and Ultimate at $10 on current U.S. pricing pages. Plus includes 350 GB of NVMe storage, five email addresses, malware scanning, and CDN-related performance features. IONOS advertises a 99.99% uptime guarantee and a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Choose IONOS if the first-year cash cost is your priority and you are willing to set a renewal reminder. Do not treat its uptime guarantee as an independently measured uptime result, and compare the renewal bill before ordering.

SiteGround StartUp is advertised at $2.99 per month prepaid for 12 months, or approximately $35.88 before taxes. It renews annually at $17.99 per month, making it one of the most expensive long-term options in this list.
- Websites: 1
- Storage: 10 GB
- Traffic guidance: approximately 10,000 monthly visits
- Included: free domain, SSL, CDN, email, automated daily backups, and 24/7 support
- Money-back period: verify the applicable guarantee and exclusions at checkout
SiteGround is worth considering when support, managed WordPress tools, staging, and convenience matter more than the lowest renewal price. Its “unmetered” data transfer does not remove CPU, memory, PHP-worker, storage, or other shared-resource limits. It is not a good pick if your main objective is the cheapest hosting over several years.
6. GreenGeeks — best for eco-conscious small sites
GreenGeeks Lite costs $2.95 per month when prepaid for 12 months, or about $35.40 for the introductory year. It renews at $13.95 per month.
- Websites: 1
- Storage: 25 GB
- Traffic: unmetered, subject to shared-resource rules
- Included: 30-day money-back guarantee
GreenGeeks Pro is $4.95 per month for the introductory term, supports unlimited websites and 50 GB of storage, and renews at $18.95 per month. Lite is adequate for one normal blog or business site; Pro can be cheaper than buying several separate accounts, but its renewal cost is high.

HostGator Hatchling is currently advertised from $2.75 per month and renews at $6.95 per month. It supports one domain and includes free SSL, migration assistance for WordPress and cPanel sites, and unmetered bandwidth.
The plan can also include a free domain registration on qualifying terms. That normally means the first year only; the domain renews at the regular annual rate. HostGator’s Baby plan supports up to 20 websites under current plan documentation and may be the better value if you know you will host multiple sites.

- The available storage capacity may vary.
HostGator is a reasonable fit for people who specifically want cPanel and phone support. “Unmetered” bandwidth still does not guarantee unlimited CPU or memory. HostGator documents temporary speed reductions when a shared account exhausts its allocated CPU resources.
8. Bluehost — best for a guided first WordPress site
Bluehost remains a familiar option for a first WordPress website. Its current platform includes WordPress hosting, free SSL, migration tools, malware scanning, AI site-creation tools, and live support.
Bluehost’s product pages are transitioning among shared hosting, WordPress, commerce, VPS, and AI-oriented offerings. Older documentation lists Basic as one website with 50 GB SSD storage and unmetered bandwidth, but the exact current plan name, price, renewal rate, backup policy, email terms, and control panel should be checked in the order screen.
That uncertainty makes Bluehost difficult to rank on price alone. It can be suitable if its guided setup reduces the time you would otherwise spend configuring WordPress, but compare the complete checkout total with Hostinger, DreamHost, or Namecheap before paying.
9. InMotion Hosting — best when storage matters
InMotion’s Core plan is listed from approximately $3.19 per month on a promotional term. The comparison includes one website, 100 GB of NVMe storage, unlimited email addresses, free migrations, and suitability for approximately 70,000 monthly visitors.
The important limitation is backups: automatic off-site backups are not included on the listed entry plan. If you choose InMotion, price a separate backup solution or upgrade before treating the site as protected. The plan is attractive for a small business with larger media files, but the exact promotional term and renewal price should be confirmed on the current pricing page.

Hosting.com Startup is listed at $1.99 per month and renews at $10.99 per month. The comparison lists one website and 100 GB of SSD storage.

The entry plan reportedly uses the Enhance control panel rather than included cPanel, and LiteSpeed performance features are placed behind higher-priced Turbo tiers. Because the product details and pricing are changing, confirm the control panel, backup schedule, renewal term, email, and migration policy at checkout. The low introductory price is not enough reason to choose it if you specifically need cPanel or included performance features.

1. Calculate the first payment
Multiply the advertised monthly-equivalent price by the required term. Examples:
| Plan | Advertised rate | Required term indicated | Approximate introductory hosting charge |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hostinger Premium | $2.99/month | 48 months | $143.52 |
| DreamHost Launch | $2.89/month | 12 months | $34.68 |
| SiteGround StartUp | $2.99/month | 12 months | $35.88 |
| GreenGeeks Lite | $2.95/month | 12 months | $35.40 |
| IONOS Plus | $1/month | 12 months | $12 |
Taxes, domain registration, paid email, privacy services, and add-ons can change the checkout total.

2. Price the second year
Renewal is often the real cost. For example, one year of SiteGround StartUp at its renewal price is $215.88, compared with about $35.88 for the introductory year. GreenGeeks Lite renews at about $167.40 per year, Hostinger Premium at about $131.88, and DreamHost Launch at about $131.88.
3. Check what “unlimited” leaves out
Unlimited or unmetered bandwidth does not mean an account can use unlimited server resources. Shared hosts can limit CPU time, RAM, inodes, databases, PHP workers, concurrent processes, and traffic patterns. A site that repeatedly hits those limits may be slowed, temporarily restricted, or asked to upgrade.
4. Confirm backups rather than assuming them
Daily backups are listed for current Hostinger, DreamHost Launch, and SiteGround comparisons, but frequency, retention, restoration fees, and storage location differ. InMotion’s listed entry plan does not include automatic off-site backups. A host’s backup is not a substitute for downloading an independent copy of your database and files.
5. Treat domains and email as separate costs
A free domain generally means free registration for the first year, not free ownership indefinitely. DreamHost’s current Launch plan includes email for three months before adding paid email automatically. Hostinger limits included mailboxes on current entry plans. Namecheap is particularly strong if you need several mailboxes without immediately buying a separate email product, but check the current allowance and fair-use terms.

FAQ
What is the cheapest web hosting in 2026?
IONOS Plus has the lowest advertised introductory price in this comparison at $1 per month on a one-year term. It renews at $14 per month. Namecheap may be cheaper for predictable ongoing shared hosting because Stellar’s listed regular price is $5.88 per month or $55.88 per year.
Is Hostinger really $2.99 per month?
Yes, the advertised Hostinger Premium rate is $2.99 per month, but it requires a 48-month term. The initial hosting charge is therefore about $143.52 before taxes and extras, and the plan renews at $10.99 per month.
Which cheap web host is best for WordPress?
DreamHost is a strong budget choice for beginners because Web Hosting Launch includes WordPress support, 25 websites, 25 GB NVMe storage, daily automated backups, SSL, and a first-year domain. SiteGround is a better fit for managed support, but its $17.99 monthly renewal is substantially higher.
Do cheap hosting plans include unlimited bandwidth and email?
Not necessarily. “Unlimited” or “unmetered” bandwidth remains subject to CPU, memory, inode, PHP-worker, database, and fair-use limits. Email also varies: Hostinger limits included mailboxes on current entry plans, while DreamHost’s Launch email is free for only three months before a paid plan is added.
Quick wins for a faster PC:

Only if you expect to use that provider for the entire term and have checked its renewal price, refund policy, backups, and upgrade options. A long prepayment lowers the monthly equivalent but increases your upfront risk if the service does not meet your needs.
The Bottom Line
For most beginners, Hostinger Premium is the best balance of price, site capacity, migration, SSL, and features—provided you can justify the 48-month upfront commitment. Choose Namecheap if a lower regular cost and generous mailbox allowance matter more. Choose DreamHost for a beginner-friendly WordPress site with daily backups, IONOS for the lowest first-year bill, and SiteGround only when managed support is worth its unusually high renewal price.
Before ordering, compare the full checkout total—not the large promotional number—and record the renewal date, domain cost, email terms, backup policy, and resource limits.
