On July 15, 2024, Best Buy was reported to be offering $270 off unlocked Galaxy S24 Ultra phones ahead of Amazon Prime Day. The 256GB model started at $1,029.99; the 1TB Titanium Black model cost $1,389.99. The reported sale ended July 17, 2024, and did not require a Prime membership or carrier activation. PhoneArena’s July 15, 2024 report describes the offer and its terms.
What were the Best Buy sale prices?
PhoneArena reported the following prices for unlocked Galaxy S24 Ultra configurations. Each listed model was $270 below its reported regular price, and the promotion was scheduled to run through Wednesday, July 17, 2024.
| Configuration | Reported regular price | Sale price | Discount |
|---|---|---|---|
| 256GB, unlocked | $1,299.99 | $1,029.99 | $270 |
| 512GB, unlocked | $1,419.99 | $1,149.99 | $270 |
| 1TB, unlocked, Titanium Black | $1,659.99 | $1,389.99 | $270 |
The “Black” in the headline referred to the Titanium Black color offered for the 1TB configuration, not a separate phone edition. The prices, discount, and end date are historical details from the original report; they should not be treated as current offers.
Why was Amazon Prime Day part of the comparison?
Best Buy’s promotion was live before Prime Day 2024, so it gave shoppers a chance to buy without waiting for Amazon’s event. That timing is what “beats Amazon to the punch” meant. The available reporting does not establish that Best Buy ultimately beat every Prime Day price, so the headline should not be read as a verified comparison of final sale prices.

PhoneArena described the Best Buy price as having no special conditions, including no membership or activation requirement. That was a description of this reported offer—not a general rule for Best Buy promotions. Taxes, stock, delivery, return terms, and financing conditions can still affect a checkout total.
What did “unlocked” mean for this offer?
The three reported configurations were unlocked 5G phones, and the advertised price did not require carrier activation. An unlocked phone generally gives the buyer more freedom to choose or change a compatible carrier than a device tied to a carrier promotion. It does not guarantee compatibility with every carrier or international network: check the exact model number and the carrier’s supported bands before buying.

What phone did the sale cover?

Its rear cameras were listed as 200MP, 50MP, 10MP, and 12MP, with a 12MP front camera and a 5,000mAh battery. The report also specified up to 45W wired charging and Galaxy AI features.
Android 14 and One UI 6.1 were the software versions named in that launch-era description. They are not a statement of the phone’s current software version or remaining support in 2026.

Was $270 off a good deal?
For someone who wanted a new, unlocked S24 Ultra right away, $270 off each listed configuration was a meaningful, straightforward reduction: no carrier activation or Prime membership was reported as necessary. The discount mattered most to buyers who valued the large display, S Pen, zoom-camera hardware, and generous storage enough to pay flagship-phone prices.
The storage tiers also changed the value calculation. The 512GB model cost $120 more than the 256GB model while doubling capacity, which may suit buyers who keep large photo, video, or game libraries on the device. The 1TB model added still more room for demanding use, but its $1,389.99 sale price remained substantial. Storage is not worth the same amount to every buyer, so the larger tier is not automatically the better deal.

PhoneArena characterized the prices as record-low at the time. That is the publication’s assessment, not an independently verified price-history finding here. A later-generation phone, a carrier offer with trade-in or bill credits, or a refurbished S24 Ultra could cost less in some circumstances; compare the total cost and conditions rather than the headline discount alone.
