Best Buy Canada’s Outlet is a live shopping hub for discounted TVs, headphones, laptops, phones, appliances, gaming products and more. But it is not one uniform sale: the inventory includes clearance, open-box, Geek Squad Certified Open Box and refurbished products, with different condition, warranty, seller and return terms.
That means the biggest percentage discount is not automatically the best deal. Before paying, check the item’s condition, model, seller, warranty, included accessories, shipping cost and return route.

Best Buy’s Outlet inventory and prices change quickly, and products can sell out while you are comparing them. In an August 2026 snapshot of the TV Outlet collection, examples included:

These are time-sensitive examples, not guaranteed current prices. Best Buy’s displayed “saving” is a comparison against its listed reference price; compare the same model with current new-product pricing before treating it as a bargain.

The broader Best Buy Outlet has also shown open-box Apple AirPods 4 at $129.99, a displayed saving of $50. AirPods Max and other portable-audio products may appear there as stock changes.
What you can find in the Outlet
The Outlet combines several types of discounted inventory across:
- TVs, home audio and home-theatre accessories
- Headphones, earbuds and portable audio
- Laptops, MacBooks, tablets and phones
- Monitors, desktop computers and cameras
- Video games and gaming hardware
- Small kitchen appliances, vacuums and major appliances
- Wearables and other electronics
Use the category pages to narrow the search, then open the individual product listing. The product page—not the category headline—should control your decision.
Clearance, open box, certified open box and refurbished: the difference
Clearance
Clearance products are generally new merchandise being sold at a reduced price, often because the model is discontinued, superseded or being removed from inventory. Best Buy says clearance items carry the original manufacturer’s warranty and are subject to its standard return and exchange policies.

Clearance is often the simplest Outlet purchase because you are not necessarily accepting previous use. The trade-off is that the model may be older or available only in limited quantities.
Open box
Open-box products have been opened or returned. Best Buy describes them as being inspected, tested and verified to work, generally with their original accessories. Its Outlet overview describes a minimum six-month warranty for open-box products.
However, Best Buy’s open-box guide says coverage can vary by product type, brand and classification. Check the warranty shown on the exact listing rather than relying only on the general Outlet description.
Geek Squad Certified Open Box
Geek Squad Certified Open Box products are inspected, tested, cleaned and certified by Geek Squad. Best Buy describes them as fully functional, cosmetically flawless or in mint condition, repackaged with original accessories and covered by a full warranty.

This can be a useful middle ground when ordinary open box is cheaper but you do not want visible wear or uncertainty about inspection. The extra assurance may not justify the price premium on an inexpensive item, so compare the final prices.
Refurbished
Best Buy describes refurbished products as inspected and fully functional, with condition grades that primarily describe cosmetic appearance:
- Excellent: few to almost no visible signs of wear.
- Good: light signs of wear, including in less visible or heavily used areas.
- Fair: visible signs of wear.
A cosmetic grade is not automatically a ranking of technical reliability. Refurbished products may be supplied by Marketplace partners, and the Outlet overview states that they carry at least a 90-day warranty. Confirm the specific seller’s warranty and return conditions before ordering.

Seller matters as much as condition
Look for the wording “Sold and shipped by Best Buy” or the name of a Marketplace seller. Products displayed on BestBuy.ca are not necessarily sold or fulfilled by Best Buy.

For Marketplace products:
- Returns generally cannot be completed at a Best Buy store.
- You normally return the item by mail to the seller.
- The seller’s return policy appears on the product page.
- You may pay return shipping for a change-of-mind return.
- The seller generally pays return shipping when the item is defective, damaged or incorrect.
Best Buy provides the checkout platform, but Marketplace fulfilment, warranty service and returns can be seller-specific. A slightly cheaper Marketplace listing may be worse value if it is expensive or difficult to return.

For most Best Buy-sold products, Best Buy says returns or exchanges are generally available within 30 days of an in-store purchase or within 30 days of online delivery, subject to exceptions and condition requirements. Review the current return policy before ordering.
Keep the receipt or order details, original packaging, manuals, warranty cards, accessories and bonus items. Opened products generally need to be in like-new condition. Defective products usually need to be returned with their original packaging and included components.

Best Buy’s policy lists open-box major appliances and floor models as non-returnable. Marketplace items follow the seller’s process rather than the normal in-store route.

Large TVs require extra planning
Televisions larger than 55 inches are treated as large items under Best Buy’s return guidance. Large-item returns can be processed at a big-box Best Buy store or through pickup, but they cannot be returned at Best Buy Mobile or Best Buy Express locations.
Before buying a 75-inch Outlet TV, confirm delivery restrictions, inspect the packaging when it arrives and keep the box until you have tested the screen. A large discount is less attractive if a damaged panel, missing stand or failed return requires difficult transport.
How to decide whether an Outlet deal is worth it
- Compare the condition-adjusted price. Compare the exact model against current new pricing, not only the percentage-off label.
- Check the model and specifications. An older TV may have weaker smart-TV software, fewer HDMI features, lower refresh rates or less capable HDR and gaming support.
- Read the warranty section. Do not assume every Outlet category has the same coverage.
- Identify the seller. Best Buy-sold and Marketplace purchases can have different return logistics.
- Confirm included accessories. For a TV, check the remote, power cable, stand and mounting hardware. For headphones, check the case, cable, dongle, adapters and ear tips.
- Calculate the landed cost. Include tax, delivery, environmental fees, installation, mounting and any protection plan.
- Assess the return difficulty. A $200 saving may not compensate for expensive return shipping or the logistics of sending back a large TV.
- Check stock immediately before checkout. Outlet listings can disappear or change seller, price, shipping availability or condition.
TV-specific checks
With an open-box or refurbished TV, inspect the screen promptly for cracks, dead pixels, uneven brightness, burn-in, image retention and other panel problems. Also verify that the feet, remote, power cable and any required stand hardware are present.
Consider why the item may have been returned. The TV may be fully functional but have been rejected because of size, viewing-angle expectations, cosmetic damage or missing accessories. For a large screen, shipping damage and return pickup are practical risks—not just technical ones.
Headphone and earbud checks
For open-box or refurbished headphones, confirm that the charging case, cable, adapters, ear tips and any wireless dongle are included. Battery capacity is not necessarily equivalent to that of a new product unless the listing says so.
Earbuds also raise hygiene and wear questions that may not be obvious from product photos. Check the condition, return terms and warranty before assuming that an open-box pair is equivalent to new.
When each Outlet category makes sense
- Choose clearance when you want new merchandise and the model is current enough for your needs.
- Choose ordinary open box when the discount is meaningful and the listing clearly confirms warranty and accessories.
- Choose Geek Squad Certified Open Box when a modestly higher price buys useful reassurance about inspection, cosmetics and warranty coverage.
- Consider refurbished when the discount is substantially larger, cosmetic wear is acceptable and the seller has clear warranty and return terms.
Be especially cautious when the discount is small, the warranty is only 90 days on an expensive product, the model is several generations old, accessories are missing or the seller’s return policy is unclear.
