ASTM says it covers private-home constant-air inflatable play devices intended for children ages 2 through 12, including performance requirements, test methods, and labeling intended to reduce risks of death and serious injury. For products primarily intended for children 12 and younger, CPSC also identifies requirements concerning total lead content, lead in paint or similar coatings if present, phthalates in plasticized materials, tracking labels, and a Children’s Product Certificate. Measure the intended play area and compare it with the product’s stated dimensions and clearance needs. Check the surface and slope requirements, nearby trees or structures, and overhead hazards. Water use is model-specific: do not run a slide wet or connect water unless the manufacturer explicitly allows it and gives instructions for that use.
Set-up and supervision are part of the purchase decision
Read the exact model’s manual before buying if it is available. - Use only the specified anchoring method and compatible anchors for the intended surface; check that anchors remain secure as directed.
- Keep the blower and power cord positioned as the manual requires, and do not alter the setup to fit the yard.
- Supervise children continuously and follow the product’s rules for occupancy and play.
- Stop use if the inflatable is unstable or damaged. Deflate, dry, and repair it only as the maker directs, and do not resume use until required repairs are complete.

Search current CPSC notices using the precise brand and model name before purchasing, and check again if you already own the inflatable. A CPSC warning dated November 16, 2022, told consumers to stop using and dispose of “My Bouncer Little Castle” bounce houses with a yellow hoop attached to a green pillar inside the main bounce house. CPSC reported one fatal incident involving a four-year-old and one additional entrapment incident, and said the hoops failed to meet a voluntary ASTM provision intended to reduce accidental head or neck entrapment.
