Berkshire Hathaway’s fourth-place homebuilding claim refers to its combined Taylor Morrison and Clayton Properties Group operation—not to Lennar. Berkshire completed its acquisition of Taylor Morrison on July 24, 2026. Separately, a September 30, 2026 SEC filing identifies Berkshire as a 10% owner of Lennar and reports its holdings in both Lennar share classes.
How Berkshire became a major homebuilder
Berkshire already owned Clayton Homes, which includes manufactured and site-built home construction as well as lending and financial services. Its 2025 annual report attributed $12.9 billion in revenue and approximately $1.9 billion in pre-tax earnings to Clayton Homes as a whole; those figures are not limited to its site-built operation. Berkshire Hathaway’s 2025 annual report.
On July 24, 2026, Berkshire completed its acquisition of Taylor Morrison. The acquisition release says Taylor Morrison and Clayton Properties Group together delivered nearly 23,000 site-built homes in 2025, operated in 21 states and 52 housing markets, and served more than 700 communities. Berkshire described that combined business as the fourth-largest homebuilding operation in the United States. Berkshire Hathaway and Taylor Morrison’s July 24, 2026 release.
The release said the Taylor Morrison and Clayton Properties Group teams would be integrated while continuing under Taylor Morrison’s CEO. Berkshire CEO Greg Abel described the acquisition as a step toward “a unified site-built homebuilding operation.” That helps explain the distinction: the fourth-place claim concerns a combined operation built around site-built home closings, while Berkshire’s broader housing business also includes Clayton Homes’ manufactured-home and financial-services activities.

What “fourth-largest” means
The fourth-place figure is the companies’ description of their combined operation. It is not an independent Berkshire ranking in Builder magazine’s 2026 Builder 100, which ranks builders by 2025 closings. That list assigns ranks to individual builders, not to Berkshire’s combined operation.
| Builder, as listed | 2025 closings | 2026 Builder 100 rank |
|---|---|---|
| D.R. Horton | 87,168 | No. 1 |
| Lennar | 82,583 | No. 2 |
| PulteGroup | 29,572 | No. 3 |
| NVR | 21,915 | No. 4 |
| Taylor Morrison | 12,997 | No. 6 |
| Clayton Properties Group | 9,953 | No. 12 |
These are individual-builder results in Builder magazine and Zonda’s 2026 ranking, based on 2025 closings. Taylor Morrison and Clayton Properties Group each appear separately in that list; their nearly 23,000 combined site-built closings are the basis for Berkshire’s separate fourth-largest-operation description. Rankings based on revenue or another measure could differ. Builder magazine’s 2026 Builder 100.
How much Lennar stock Berkshire owns
Berkshire’s Lennar relationship is a securities investment, separate from the Taylor Morrison acquisition. A September 30, 2026 Form 4 identifies Berkshire as a 10% owner and reports 26,034,436 Lennar Class A shares and 553,000 Class B shares following transactions through September 30. The filing’s designation is “10% owner”; it does not establish that Berkshire owns more than 10% of Lennar’s total shares across both classes. Avoid reading the designation as an exact combined percentage without a supported denominator. Berkshire Hathaway’s September 30, 2026 Form 4.
An earlier Berkshire Schedule 13G reported 13,111,741 Lennar Class A shares, equal to 6.2% of that class, as of June 30, 2026; it was filed August 14. That is a different-date snapshot and a percentage for Class A specifically, not a direct measure of Berkshire’s later position across both classes. The September Form 4 is the newer filing and includes transactions through September 30. Berkshire Hathaway’s June 30, 2026 Schedule 13G.

Why Lennar’s scale is a separate comparison
Lennar delivered 82,583 homes in fiscal 2025, making it one of the largest individual builders in Builder magazine’s closing-based ranking. Its 2025 annual report also says that as of November 30, 2025, it controlled 98% of its homesites through options with land banks, land sellers, and joint ventures. That illustrates Lennar’s land-light approach: controlling a homesite through an option or agreement is different from owning the land outright. Lennar remains distinct from the Berkshire-owned Taylor Morrison and Clayton businesses. Lennar’s 2025 annual report and SEC filings.

- Authentic, Real-World Construction Experience: The Pitsco True Scale House Framing Kit delivers a realistic construction model rather than simple assembly play. Students build a true 1:16 scale house model using 485 precision-cut balsa wood pieces, following professional-style house plans and construction methods aligned to real building practices. This architectural framing kit helps learners understand stud framing, scale lumber, and structural design in a way traditional model kits cannot.
- Blueprint Reading & Skill-Building: Designed as a hands-on architecture lesson for ages 14+, this model house framing kit guides students through a structured learning progression. Learners begin by interpreting blueprints, measuring to scale, and understanding architectural drawings before cutting, framing, and assembling the structure. The challenge builds accuracy, focus, and confidence, making it ideal for homeschooling, high school engineering projects, and blueprint reading practice tools.
- Choice-Based Design & Structural Comparison: Unlike most balsa wood house kits, this architectural model making supply allows students to choose between two realistic roof systems: truss or hip. Comparing a truss building kit to a hip roof framing model gives learners firsthand experience with real-world structural approaches used in residential construction, reinforcing problem-solving, interpretation, and decision-making while maintaining authentic construction standards.
- Classroom-Ready & Collaborative by Design: This classroom building kit is designed for individual or paired work, supporting collaboration and communication as students divide tasks, measure materials, and assemble the wooden house frame model together. Instructions are student-facing, with minimal teacher prep required beyond gathering shared tools. Projects can be stored safely during multi-week builds, making it well suited for extended classroom use.
- Career Pathways in Construction & Design: The True Scale House Framing Kit connects hands-on building to real careers in construction, architecture, engineering, drafting, and skilled trades. By applying construction terminology, reading plans, and working with a realistic construction model, students gain exposure to Career and Technical Education (CTE) construction concepts and civil engineering foundations, positioning this as a powerful architecture study kit and vocational training resource.
