Buffett as joint reporting persons in purchases of 2,418,637 Lennar shares across the company’s Class A and Class B stock on October 1 and 2, 2026. The filing reports the resulting holdings, but it does not explain why the shares were bought. Lennar separately said mortgage rates rose during its fiscal third quarter and lowered its full-year delivery outlook.
What Berkshire’s Form 4 reports
The SEC filing lists purchases totaling 2,403,609 Lennar Class A shares and 15,028 Class B shares across October 1 and 2, 2026. After those transactions, it reports beneficial ownership of 28,438,045 Class A shares and 568,028 Class B shares.
The filing identifies Berkshire subsidiaries as holding the shares. Buffett appears as a joint reporting person and disclaims beneficial ownership except to the extent of his pecuniary interest. The balances therefore should not be described as shares Buffett personally holds. See the SEC Form 4.
Why did Berkshire buy more Lennar stock?
The Form 4 records the transactions but gives no investment rationale and does not identify which Berkshire investment manager decided to make them. It does not establish that Buffett personally directed the purchases, or that rising mortgage rates caused them. Any claim about Berkshire’s reasoning would go beyond what the filing says.

What Lennar said about mortgage rates and its business
In its fiscal third-quarter 2026 results, Lennar said: “Mortgage rates increased through the quarter, with the 30-year rate at approximately 6.8% at quarter end and even higher since.” That is the company’s description of the rate environment at the close of its reporting quarter, not an independently checked national rate series. Read Lennar’s third-quarter results.
Lennar reported 20,840 homes delivered, 20,879 new orders and $8.0 billion in total revenue for the quarter. Its average sales price was $372,000, with approximately 12.0% in incentives, and gross margin was 15.8%. The company also revised its fiscal 2026 delivery target to approximately 80,000–81,000 homes, from its previous range of 82,000–83,000. These are company-reported results and guidance, not independently verified forecasts.

How higher mortgage rates can affect homebuilders
Higher financing costs can make a home purchase less affordable for buyers relying on mortgages, potentially weighing on demand. Lennar’s annual report describes housing demand as cyclical and sensitive to financing availability, affordability, employment, consumer confidence, inflation and interest rates. Those factors help explain why rates matter to a builder’s business, but they do not prove what prompted Berkshire’s trades. Lennar’s fiscal 2025 annual report also discusses its land strategy: the company uses land options and contractual arrangements as part of a land-light approach, while cautioning that the strategy may not increase value or profitability.

The filing establishes a transaction and the share balances reported after it. Lennar’s results provide context on rates, sales activity, incentives, margins and its outlook. Neither source connects those operating conditions to Berkshire’s decision. They also do not provide peer-company data for ranking Lennar against other homebuilders. For a reader assessing Lennar’s business, the useful questions are how affordability affects demand, whether orders translate into deliveries, and how incentives and margins evolve—not whether the purchases alone predict the housing market.
