Bayer and Kimitec announced a global strategic partnership on February 2, 2023, to develop biological crop-protection products from natural sources and biostimulants. The companies’ stated plan combines Kimitec’s discovery capabilities with Bayer’s product development, field testing, support, and commercialization infrastructure. Bayer later named two solutions associated with the collaboration, but its announcements do not establish independent efficacy, regulatory status, or availability in any particular market.
What is Bayer and Kimitec’s partnership about?
The agreement is intended to accelerate the discovery and development of biological solutions for agriculture. Its stated scope includes products targeting pests, diseases, and weeds, as well as biostimulants intended to support plant growth. Bayer describes agricultural biologicals as part of integrated crop management, alongside seeds and traits, digital tools, and chemical crop protection—not as automatic replacements for those tools.
In the announcement, Dr. Robert Reiter, then Head of R&D for Bayer’s Crop Science division, said: “Every farmer can benefit from biologicals, from seed treatment to pest control, and Bayer will be bringing together systems of solutions to provide more value by providing farmers greater flexibility.” The statement describes Bayer’s rationale and ambition for the partnership, not a demonstrated outcome.
What does each company contribute?
- Kimitec: Its MAAVi Innovation Center contributes discovery capabilities. The announcement also identifies LINNA, Kimitec’s AI platform, as a tool intended to speed the discovery of natural molecules.
- Bayer: The company contributes product-development expertise and infrastructure for field testing, product support, and commercialization.
The companies framed the collaboration as a way to build integrated crop-management solutions. The division of roles describes the planned work; it does not by itself show that a particular product has been tested, registered, or made available to growers.

What products have Bayer and Kimitec developed?
In a later Bayer Crop Science post, Bayer said it was introducing Ambition Complete Gen2 and Ambition Secure Gen2 following research at MAAVi and through the Kimitec partnership. Bayer described Ambition Complete Gen2 as enhancing nutrient uptake, resilience, and metabolic activation, and Ambition Secure Gen2 as addressing calcium absorption and mobility in plants. These are Bayer’s descriptions, not findings from an independent efficacy study.
The post does not establish product registration or availability across markets. Growers evaluating either product need to check the relevant local registration, permitted uses, crop-specific directions, and supporting evidence. The cited announcements do not provide enough product-level data to compare their performance or recommend one for a particular crop or growing condition.

What does the partnership establish—and what remains unproven?
Bayer’s current agricultural biologicals page continues to describe Kimitec as a partner, and Bayer has since named two solutions associated with the collaboration. That supports saying the partnership remains part of Bayer’s stated biologicals work and has been linked to product announcements. It does not establish independent field-trial results, regulatory approval, or universal commercial availability.
For a grower, the useful next step is to assess any locally available product against the specific crop challenge, local permitted use, field-trial evidence, and fit within an integrated management plan. The partnership announcement alone is not enough to judge efficacy or determine whether a product is suitable.

How should the €25 billion market figure be read?
Bayer’s 2023 announcement cited a DataM Intelligence forecast that the global agriculture biologics market would reach nearly €25 billion by 2028. The estimate came from a 2021 report, Global Agriculture Biologics Market: Market Size, Share and Forecast; Market Outlook, Opportunity and Data Analysis 2021–2028. It is a historical forecast quoted by Bayer, not a verified current market size or confirmation that the forecast was achieved.
