That was a transformation plan, not confirmation that the bank had already completed the conversion. In its latest located progress report, for the quarter ended March 31, 2026, the bank said implementation was still ongoing. Official material located through October 7, 2026, does not confirm completion or give a definitive completion date.
What Bank of Khyber announced
In a public notice dated February 22, 2025, Bank of Khyber announced its decision to convert all conventional branches into Islamic branches. The bank said the process would follow State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) guidelines and require necessary approvals. The announcement described an intended bank-wide transition; it did not say that every branch or customer account had already moved to Islamic banking.
The bank’s notice also outlined a customer-facing process: conventional account holders would be contacted about converting accounts and advances, informed about the underlying contracts, and asked for consent after necessary SBP approvals. The bank said representatives would answer questions and that service would remain uninterrupted during the transition. How far the conversion had progressed in official reports
The reported figures show progress, but the dates and network categories differ. Branches, sub-Islamic branches, booths, and Islamic Banking Windows are not interchangeable, so these figures should not be added together or treated as a single current total.

The difference between the 2025 and 2026 figures reflects reports made at different dates and with different stated measures. The first-quarter report’s 199 dedicated Islamic branches should not be combined with the year-end counts for sub-Islamic branches, booths, or windows.
Is Bank of Khyber fully Islamic now?
Completion is not confirmed by the official material located through October 7, 2026. The latest located progress report, covering the quarter ended March 31, 2026, describes implementation as ongoing. The bank’s official conversion page continues to provide branch-conversion notices, but the notices surfaced in the available material chiefly concern 2025 conversions; they do not establish that the bank-wide conversion is complete or provide a definitive completion date. Accordingly, the bank’s announced goal should not be mistaken for a completed change in every branch, account, or financing arrangement. An individual customer should confirm their own branch and account status directly with the bank.
What conversion means for a customer
According to the February 2025 notice, the bank planned to approach conventional account holders about converting accounts and advances after necessary SBP approvals. It said it would explain the contracts underlying the proposed arrangements and seek customer consent. The notice also directed customers to contact their nearest branch with questions.
- Ask whether your specific branch has received a conversion notice and what date applies.
- Request the proposed contract and an explanation of how it affects your account or advance.
- Confirm whether you need to give consent and what action, if any, is required from you.
- Ask the bank to confirm your account’s current status and any applicable terms in writing.
The public notice does not establish that every customer’s account has converted, that all products have identical terms, or that a particular customer has already been contacted.

SBP’s March 2024 broad parameters say that banks preparing conversion plans should address their vision and strategy, governance, milestones for converting business and branches, gap analysis across policies, products, services, infrastructure, and human resources, and employee onboarding and training. These are planning and implementation matters; they do not, on their own, set a completion date for Bank of Khyber. SBP conversion framework, March 2024
A circular letter dated June 16, 2026, changed two notice periods in the branch-conversion criteria:
- The period for informing the general public and account holders about a conventional branch conversion was reduced from three and a half months to two months.
- The interval between two notices for conversion of current accounts on a deemed-acceptance basis was reduced from 30 days to 15 days.
These are general regulatory changes. They do not establish the schedule for a particular Bank of Khyber branch; customers need to refer to the bank’s notice for the branch and account concerned. SBP circular letter, June 16, 2026
