Bajaj Finance FD Premature Withdrawal Rules, Penalties and Alternatives

Bajaj Finance generally bars FD withdrawal in the first three months. Learn the later interest rules, limited exceptions, request steps and loan alternative.

Bajaj Finance generally does not allow premature withdrawal of a fixed deposit during its first three months. From three months to before six months, withdrawal is permitted without interest. After six months and before maturity, the applicable interest rate is reduced under the company’s terms. Limited exceptions and a conditional loan-against-deposit option may apply. Check the terms for your specific FD and the breakup shown in the service portal before deciding.

How Bajaj Finance’s premature-withdrawal rules work

The outcome depends on how long the deposit has run, the applicable tenure slab and your deposit’s terms. The rules below summarize Bajaj Finance Limited’s published premature-withdrawal terms accessed on October 9, 2026; they should not be assumed to apply to bank FDs, deposits with other NBFCs or every customer category. Your account-specific calculation may also reflect the interest payout option and prior deductions.

When you request withdrawal Published treatment
Within the first three months Generally not permitted, subject to the limited exceptions described below.
After three months but before six months Withdrawal is permitted, but interest is not payable.
After six months and before maturity The interest rate used is generally two percentage points below the rate specified for the period the deposit has run. If no rate is specified for that period, the terms provide for a rate three percentage points below the company’s lowest offered rate.

The reductions after six months are percentage-point reductions to the interest rate used in the calculation, not fixed rupee charges. For example, a two-percentage-point reduction means subtracting 2 percentage points from the applicable rate; it does not mean subtracting 2% of the principal as a fee. The actual amount payable depends on your FD’s details and the company’s calculation.

Which tenure slab counts?

If the request falls between tenure slabs, Bajaj Finance’s terms say the previous month’s slab applies. Its example is a request after 23 months but before 24 months: the interest penalty is calculated using the rates applicable to the previous month’s slab. This can make the exact request date relevant; do not assume the deposit is treated as if it had completed the next slab.

In practical terms, being close to a slab boundary does not necessarily mean you receive the rate associated with the next completed tenure. If your FD is between 23 and 24 months, for instance, the stated example uses the previous month’s slab. Check the tenure and slab shown in the portal rather than rounding up the elapsed period yourself. If waiting until a later date is feasible, compare the amount shown for that date with the current breakup; do not assume the difference without checking the actual calculation.

Why a general estimate may be wrong

The published rule does not by itself tell you your payout. The deposit’s original rate, elapsed tenure and applicable slab affect the interest calculation. So can the interest payout option, deductions already made and terms specific to the account. Use the premature-withdrawal breakup shown during the portal request rather than estimating from the headline penalty alone.

There are two distinct cases after six months. If Bajaj Finance has specified a rate for the period your FD has run, the stated reduction is two percentage points from that rate. If it has not specified a rate for that period, the fallback in the terms is three percentage points below the company’s lowest offered rate. The fallback is not the same as applying a further flat fee, and the relevant rate must be confirmed from the applicable terms or the account calculation.

For illustration only, if a hypothetical rate specified for the elapsed period were 7%, a reduction of two percentage points would make the rate used 5%, not 6.86% (which would be a 2% proportional reduction). This example explains the wording; it is not a quote of a current Bajaj Finance FD rate or a prediction of an individual payout. The amount ultimately paid cannot be derived from that example alone.

Also distinguish the rate used for the premature calculation from a simple deduction from principal. The terms describe a reduced interest rate, and the three-to-under-six-month rule says no interest is payable. Neither description supplies a universal rupee penalty for every customer. The portal’s breakup is therefore more useful than multiplying principal by a headline percentage and treating the result as the amount lost.

Exceptions and special cases

The terms describe limited circumstances in which repayment may be possible under different conditions. Eligibility and documentation matter; a listed exception is not a guarantee that a request will be approved without verification.

Situation What the terms provide
Depositor’s death The company may repay the deposit on request, subject to proof and required documents.
Verified emergency Emergency partial prematurity may be considered for emergent expenses such as a medical emergency or natural calamity or disaster. The limit is the lower of 50% of principal or ₹5 lakh, subject to verification and evaluation.
Critical illness The terms provide for payment of 100% of principal without interest in a critical-illness case. The definition is tied to the cited IRDAI regulations and guidelines.
Small aggregate deposit Deposits aggregating no more than ₹10,000 in principal may be paid prematurely without interest under stated depositor and capacity conditions.

Emergency partial withdrawal is capped

The emergency provision is for a partial payment, not necessarily the full FD balance. Its cap is whichever is lower: half of the principal or ₹5 lakh. For instance, half of a ₹6 lakh principal is ₹3 lakh, so the cap under this formula would be ₹3 lakh. For a ₹20 lakh principal, half is ₹10 lakh, so the cap would be ₹5 lakh. These examples illustrate only the stated cap; verification, evaluation and the customer’s eligibility still apply.

The cap is based on principal under the stated formula, not on a promise to release the entire account value or all accrued interest. If the amount you need is more than the applicable limit, do not assume the emergency provision will cover the shortfall. Ask what documentation and process apply, then compare the possible partial payment with a loan offer or another source of funds. The emergency provision should be treated as conditional relief, not as a general right to break any amount of an FD early.

Check the conditions before relying on an exception

For death-related repayment, the terms require proof and documents. For emergency partial prematurity, Bajaj Finance says the case is subject to verification and evaluation. The critical-illness provision uses a definition tied to IRDAI regulations and guidelines, rather than treating any serious diagnosis as automatically qualifying. The small-deposit provision also has depositor and capacity conditions. Confirm the applicable requirements with Bajaj Finance for the specific FD before making plans around an exception.

The small-deposit figure is an aggregate principal threshold of ₹10,000, not a general ₹10,000 allowance on every FD. Whether the provision applies depends on the stated depositor and capacity conditions. Likewise, the critical-illness treatment is not described as an interest-bearing withdrawal: the terms provide for 100% of principal without interest in the qualifying case. Confirm the definition and evidence requirements before assuming that a diagnosis qualifies.

These exceptions differ from the ordinary tenure-based rule. A death request is subject to proof and documentation; an emergency request is limited to a partial amount and evaluation; the critical-illness provision is tied to a defined category and pays principal without interest; and the small-deposit treatment has both an aggregate threshold and capacity conditions. Do not apply one exception’s limit or requirements to another.

How to submit a premature-withdrawal request

Bajaj Finance’s service guide, “Withdraw your FD prematurely in My Account,” directs customers to use the service portal. You can review the breakup during the request flow before submitting. The route described in the guide is through the registered account, so make sure you can access the registered mobile number to receive OTPs.

  1. Sign in to the Bajaj Finance service portal using your registered mobile number and OTP.
  2. Verify your details, then open Raise a Request.
  3. Choose Service, then Relations.
  4. Select Fixed Deposit, then Premature withdrawal.
  5. Review the premature-withdrawal breakup shown for your deposit. Check the interest treatment and deductions before proceeding.
  6. If you want to continue, submit the request with the OTP as prompted.

The service guide says a representative will reach out within 48 business hours after submission to guide you through further steps. Treat this as the stated follow-up time, not a promise that funds will be credited within that period. Keep the request details and any communications so you can follow up if you do not hear back.

What to check in the breakup

  • Whether your elapsed tenure places the FD in the under-three-month, three-to-under-six-month or post-six-month treatment.
  • Which tenure slab the company has applied, especially if your request falls between slabs.
  • The interest amount and any deductions included in the calculation.
  • Whether the displayed amount meets your cash need, and whether an eligible exception or borrowing option would be more suitable.

Before submitting, look at the displayed breakup as a decision point, not just a formality. Check that it corresponds to the FD you intend to act on and that the tenure shown appears consistent with your deposit dates. Look for the applicable interest treatment and deductions, then compare the net amount with the cash you need. If you are unsure what an item means, ask Bajaj Finance to explain it before confirming.

The portal route describes how to raise the request; it does not mean every request is automatically completed as soon as the OTP is entered. According to the service guide, a representative contacts the customer within 48 business hours to guide the next steps. That is a contact timeframe, not a stated credit deadline. Keep a record of the submission and the breakup you reviewed, and follow up through the service channel if the expected contact does not occur.

Tax deducted before withdrawal

Bajaj Finance’s terms state that tax deducted at source and remitted before withdrawal will not be refunded by the company. That means you should not assume the premature-withdrawal calculation will reverse TDS already remitted. Review the breakup and your tax records to understand the amounts involved; ask Bajaj Finance or a qualified tax professional about how the deduction is reflected in your circumstances.

This point matters when comparing the displayed proceeds with the interest reduction. TDS already remitted is treated separately in the terms: the company says it will not refund that amount on premature withdrawal. Do not treat an earlier deduction as a rupee penalty newly imposed for breaking the FD, and do not assume it will be restored as part of the payout. Check the figures in the portal and your own tax records rather than using a gross interest estimate as the cash you will receive.

Alternative: consider a loan against the FD

Bajaj Finance’s FD terms say a loan against the deposit may be provided after the deposit has completed three months, subject to eligibility and the company’s conditions. The stated maximum is 75% of the deposit amount, and the stated loan interest rate is two percentage points above the deposit rate. These are the terms’ stated limits and rate relationship, not a guarantee of approval or the offer you will receive.

A loan can provide liquidity while leaving the FD in place, but it is borrowing and creates repayment obligations and interest cost. Do not assume it is cheaper than breaking the FD. Compare the actual loan offer—including amount, rate and repayment schedule—with the withdrawal breakup for your deposit. Consider whether the FD’s continued interest and maturity value justify the cost and obligation of the loan.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The 75% figure is a stated cap, not a promise that every eligible customer can borrow that amount. The terms also make the loan conditional on eligibility and company conditions. Ask what amount is actually available against your particular FD, what rate applies, and how repayment works. The stated rate relationship is two percentage points above the deposit rate; confirm the rate and repayment details in the actual offer rather than relying only on the general relationship.

A loan may be worth comparing when you need liquidity but want to keep the deposit active. Its advantage is that you may not need to close the FD; its cost is that you borrow and pay interest while taking on an obligation to repay. Premature withdrawal instead gives you the withdrawal proceeds under the applicable penalty and deduction rules but may reduce the interest payable or, in the three-to-under-six-month period, leave no interest payable. Which is preferable depends on the figures and your repayment capacity, not on the mere fact that the FD remains open.

Compare like with like: the net amount available from the withdrawal, the amount the loan would actually provide, its rate and repayment schedule, and the implications of keeping the FD. A loan is not automatically a way to avoid a loss, and premature withdrawal is not automatically the cheaper route. If the actual loan offer does not meet the cash need or its repayment obligation is unsuitable, preserving the deposit may not be useful. Base the choice on confirmed terms.

Choose between withdrawal, an exception and borrowing

Use the actual portal breakup and any loan offer to make a like-for-like decision. The best option depends on how much cash you need, how soon you need it and the cost of giving up or borrowing against the deposit.

  1. Identify your elapsed tenure. Establish whether the deposit is under three months, between three and six months, or past six months, and identify the slab used if it falls between slabs.
  2. Check whether an exception fits. Consider the death, verified emergency, critical-illness or small-deposit provisions only if the relevant conditions apply. For an emergency, compare the capped partial amount with the amount you need.
  3. Review net proceeds. Obtain the portal’s withdrawal breakup, including the applicable interest calculation and deductions. Remember that TDS already remitted is not refunded by the company.
  4. Ask for the actual loan terms if relevant. Confirm availability, the amount offered, interest rate and repayment schedule for your deposit; the published maximum and rate relationship do not establish your individual offer.
  5. Compare what each option leaves you with. A full withdrawal may meet a larger cash need but ends the deposit under its terms; partial emergency prematurity is capped; a loan preserves the FD but costs interest and must be repaid. Choose based on the confirmed figures, not only the general rules.

Match the option to the situation

If the deposit is less than three months old, the standard rule is that premature withdrawal is generally not permitted. First check whether a stated exception applies; do not plan around an ordinary withdrawal unless Bajaj Finance confirms it is available. If the deposit has run for three months but less than six, a withdrawal is permitted but interest is not payable. In that window, compare the cash available under the breakup with a qualifying loan offer if you can meet the borrowing obligation.

Once the FD has run for more than six months, the rate reduction is relevant, but the exact calculation still depends on the specified period rate or the fallback rate and the previous-slab rule where applicable. A request close to a slab boundary is a reason to inspect the displayed calculation carefully. The withdrawal may be preferable if the net proceeds meet your needs and borrowing would cost more or be impractical; the terms alone do not establish which is better.

If your circumstances appear to fit an exception, focus on whether the provision addresses the amount and event in question. For an emergency, the permitted partial amount is capped at the lower of 50% of principal or ₹5 lakh. For critical illness, the terms refer to payment of principal without interest under the specified definition. Death-related repayment and small aggregate deposits have their own conditions. Ask about proof and documents before relying on any of these routes.

Finally, separate urgency from convenience. If you need only a portion of the money, a capped emergency payment or a loan may be worth asking about; neither should be assumed available without confirmation. If you need the entire balance, the emergency partial provision may not solve the problem. The portal breakup and an actual loan offer provide the account-specific numbers needed to compare these paths.

Before you act

  • Read the FD documentation for the specific deposit and customer category.
  • Use the service portal to review the current withdrawal breakup before submitting.
  • Confirm required documents and eligibility if you are relying on an exception.
  • Compare the withdrawal amount with any actual loan offer and repayment obligation.
  • Do not assume published terms or portal procedures apply unchanged to another issuer or deposit product.

The policy figures and workflow above come from Bajaj Finance Limited’s official premature-withdrawal and fixed-deposit terms and its service guide, including “What Happens If I Break My FD Before Its Maturity?” and “Withdraw your FD prematurely in My Account,” accessed October 9, 2026. Terms can change, and the terms for your specific deposit should govern. Confirm the current portal calculation and account-specific requirements before taking action.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I withdraw a Bajaj Finance FD before three months?

The published terms generally do not permit premature withdrawal during the first three months. They describe limited cases, including repayment on a depositor’s death subject to proof and documents, and qualifying emergency or critical-illness provisions. Confirm whether a specific exception applies to your FD.

What happens if I break my Bajaj Finance FD after three months but before six months?

Withdrawal is permitted, but interest is not payable under Bajaj Finance’s published terms. Check the breakup in the service portal for your account-specific amount and deductions.

How is the penalty calculated after six months?

The terms provide for interest at two percentage points below the rate specified for the period the deposit has run. If no rate is specified for that period, the terms state a rate three percentage points below the company’s lowest offered rate. This is a reduction in the interest rate used in the calculation, not a flat rupee fee. The applicable slab and your FD details matter.

What if I request premature withdrawal between two tenure slabs?

Bajaj Finance’s terms say the previous month’s slab applies. Their example is a request after 23 months but before 24 months, when the previous month’s slab is used. Check the portal breakup rather than assuming the next slab has been reached.

How much can I withdraw early for an emergency?

The stated emergency partial-prematurity cap is the lower of 50% of principal or ₹5 lakh, for emergent expenses such as medical emergencies or natural calamities or disasters. The request is subject to verification and evaluation; it is not a guarantee of full withdrawal.

Can I take a loan against my Bajaj Finance FD instead of breaking it?

The FD terms say a loan may be provided after the deposit has completed three months, subject to eligibility and company conditions. The stated maximum is 75% of the deposit amount, and the stated loan rate is two percentage points above the deposit rate. Confirm the actual amount, rate and repayment schedule, then compare the offer with your withdrawal breakup.

Will Bajaj Finance refund TDS if I withdraw an FD early?

The terms say tax deducted at source and remitted before withdrawal will not be refunded by the company. Review the portal breakup and your tax records, and seek tax advice if you need help understanding the deduction in your situation.

How do I request premature withdrawal online?

Sign in to the service portal with your registered mobile number and OTP, verify your details, then go to Raise a Request, Service, Relations, Fixed Deposit and Premature withdrawal. Review the breakup and submit with OTP if you wish to proceed. The service guide says a representative will contact you within 48 business hours to guide the next steps; that is not a stated funds-credit deadline.

The Bottom Line

Bajaj Finance’s standard FD rules depend on elapsed tenure: withdrawal is generally barred in the first three months, permitted without interest from three to under six months, and subject to a reduced interest rate after six months. Limited exceptions and a conditional loan against the deposit may apply. Check the specific FD terms, portal breakup and any actual loan offer before choosing.
