AWS Case Study: How ZNotes Uses Bedrock to Help Students Prepare for Exams

ZNotes paired its free exam-preparation resources with a Bedrock chatbot. AWS reported early launch-period usage, while ZNotes’ later impact report gave broader reach and learner outcome figures.

AWS says ZNotes had reached more than six million learners in more than 190 countries by the time of its February 2025 case study. The student-focused learning platform added a chatbot built with Amazon Bedrock and Amazon Bedrock Knowledge Bases to answer study questions using curated, syllabus-aligned content. That reach is distinct from the chatbot’s much smaller early usage: AWS reported more than 1,000 chatbot users between its December 2024 launch and early February 2025.

What ZNotes offers students

ZNotes began in 2014 as a school project by founder Zubair Junjunia, then 16, to make high-quality, syllabus-specific exam notes accessible. The organization describes itself as a global, youth-led movement. Its free online learning resources include notes, videos and quizzes, alongside peer learning; AWS says its content is co-created with high-performing students and that the platform primarily serves learners aged 14–18. ZNotes’ story and AWS’s case study describe the service and its origins.

How the Bedrock chatbot fits in

Launched in December 2024, the chatbot uses Amazon Bedrock and Amazon Bedrock Knowledge Bases to provide on-demand study help based on curated, syllabus-aligned material. The idea is to let students ask questions and get support grounded in learning content suited to their exams, extending ZNotes’ existing resources rather than replacing them.

AWS quotes ZNotes founder and CEO Zubair Junjunia: “With the support of AWS and Amazon Bedrock, we’ve been able to create an AI-powered chatbot trained on pre-validated content that personalizes learning for students, no matter where they are in the world,” said Zubair Junjunia, ZNotes Founder and CEO.

What the reported numbers do—and do not—show

The figures describe different things at different dates. AWS’s February 2025 case study reported the platform’s reach and the chatbot’s initial activity; ZNotes’ later impact report covers organization-wide reach and learner outcomes from January 2024 through June 2025. They should not be treated as interchangeable measures of chatbot adoption.

Measure Reported figure What it refers to
Platform reach More than 6 million learners in more than 190 countries AWS case study, February 2025
Early chatbot use More than 1,000 users and more than 3,500 messages AWS launch-period snapshot, from December 2024 launch through early February 2025; about 1% of ZNotes monthly active users at that time
Chatbot growth target 10,000 users, or 10% of monthly active users, at about five engagements per user each month AWS projection, not an achieved result established by the cited sources
Later platform reach 6.4 million students and teachers across 190 countries ZNotes Impact Report 2024–25, covering January 2024–June 2025
New learners 1.5 million, with 85% from emerging economies ZNotes Impact Report 2024–25, covering January 2024–June 2025
Exam outcomes 87% met or exceeded target exam grades ZNotes-reported learner outcome for January 2024–June 2025; not proof that ZNotes alone caused those results

The chatbot’s early figures are a dated launch snapshot, not a statement of current usage. Likewise, AWS’s 10,000-user figure was a projected target; the sources cited here do not establish whether it was reached. ZNotes’ exam-grade figure is an organization-reported outcome, not an independently established causal effect.

Why AWS is involved

AWS says it selected ZNotes for its Education Equity Initiative, which commits up to $100 million in cloud credits and technical expertise to organizations developing digital learning solutions for underserved communities. That is the initiative’s overall commitment; AWS does not say that the full amount, or a specific portion of it, was awarded to ZNotes. The case study explains the partnership in the context of using digital learning tools to broaden access to educational support.

What remains unknown about the chatbot

The cited case study explains the services used and the content approach, but does not specify the underlying model, detailed system architecture, operating costs, independent accuracy testing, or privacy controls. It also does not provide later adoption figures showing whether chatbot use grew beyond the early launch-period snapshot. The available evidence therefore supports a description of the chatbot’s purpose and initial use, not a conclusion about its current scale or independently measured effectiveness.
