LifeMiles is avianca’s loyalty program: members can earn miles on eligible avianca and partner-airline flights, earn through participating commercial partners, and redeem miles for flights and other listed benefits. The exact earning eligibility, award availability and mileage price depend on the itinerary, partner and current terms, so check LifeMiles’ live tools before booking.
What is LifeMiles?
LifeMiles is the loyalty program associated with avianca. Its miles can be earned through eligible travel and participating commercial activity, then redeemed for flights and other options listed by the program. LifeMiles does not establish one universal value per mile or a fixed flight price in its redemption guidance; members are directed to search for current destinations and mileage requirements.
Two balances or measures should not be confused: redeemable miles are used for redemptions, while qualifying miles count toward elite status under the program’s rules.
How to earn LifeMiles
Flying with avianca
Add your LifeMiles number during booking or check-in. If an eligible avianca flight does not post, LifeMiles says to wait more than four days before requesting credit. Its help center allows retroactive claims up to 12 months after travel, subject to applicable terms. See LifeMiles’ flight-earning instructions.
#1 Best Overall
Flying with airline partners
LifeMiles lists partner earning that includes Star Alliance airlines, Iberia and GOL. Eligibility is not guaranteed for every fare, and each airline can have its own requirements. The program’s English guidance says members must have joined LifeMiles before travel. It also describes a restriction against having flown with the relevant airline in the previous 12 months for Star Alliance members, or six months for Iberia or GOL. For missing credit, wait 14 days after travel before pursuing a claim; the claim route and supporting information differ by partner. Check the specific airline’s rules in LifeMiles’ partner-flight guidance.
Codeshares operated by Clic
LifeMiles says eligible avianca codeshare flights operated by Clic can earn miles, which may post within up to 60 days after travel. Confirm the flight qualifies under the program’s terms.
Commercial partners and gift codes
Other earning routes described by LifeMiles include car rentals, partner hotels, commercial purchases and co-branded LifeMiles cards. LifeMiles Plus is also mentioned among activities that can contribute qualifying miles. Partners, card products and terms can differ by country and change over time. For commercial partner purchases, provide your LifeMiles number at the time of purchase: the program says it cannot be added afterward if omitted. See its guidance on earning with commercial partners.
If you receive an eligible retailer gift code, LifeMiles says you can submit it through lifemiles.com for account credit; successful submission credits the account immediately. Eligibility depends on the code. Details are in the program’s gift-code instructions.

Search LifeMiles for avianca and partner-airline itineraries, then use the results to check the miles required for your dates and route. The program describes one-way, round-trip and multi-city searches, as well as a special-offer section for select destinations. Mileage prices and award seats are itinerary-specific and can change, so a result for one date or route should not be treated as a general price. Start with LifeMiles’ flight redemption guidance.
Before comparing options, review the total miles displayed, cash taxes or fees shown at checkout, dates and routing, cabin, airline partner and number of seats available. Also check the ticket’s current change and cancellation conditions. The official guidance reviewed here does not establish general award change or cancellation charges, so rely on the terms presented for the specific booking.
Check passenger names before issuing a partner award
For partner-airline awards, verify every passenger’s name against the travel document before issuing the ticket. LifeMiles says names on issued partner tickets cannot be corrected. Its stated recourse is to request a refund of the redeemed miles and repeat the booking process, subject to the available fare conditions. See LifeMiles’ partner-ticket name guidance.

LifeMiles also describes redemptions for business-cabin upgrades on avianca or Star Alliance flights, VIP lounge access, and certain products or services from airline and commercial partners. The availability and conditions depend on the specific option. The program recommends arranging lounge access in advance. Review the current options in its redemption overview.

Qualifying miles and elite status
Qualifying miles count exclusively toward achieving or maintaining elite status; they are not the same as redeemable miles used for awards. LifeMiles names Red Plus, Silver, Gold and Diamond in its status overview. Qualification is measured over the calendar year and requires both the applicable qualifying-mile goal and a minimum amount earned from avianca flights or additional services. Because thresholds and progress rules can change, check your current elite progress page and the program’s elite-status requirements rather than relying on a general threshold.
