Avenue Supermarts reported strong Q2 FY27 revenue growth, but its standalone margins narrowed year over year. That mixed result calls for a closer look at store performance, margin direction and the share price—not an automatic buy, hold or sell call. The available figures come from news reports; check the company’s Q2 FY27 results and investor presentation when available before making a decision.
What did Avenue Supermarts report in Q2 FY27?
The Economic Times reported consolidated revenue of about ₹19,644 crore, up 17.8% year over year, and consolidated net profit of about ₹743 crore, up 8.5%. Financial Express reported that standalone EBITDA margin was 7.3%, compared with 7.6% a year earlier, while standalone PAT margin was 4.2%, compared with 4.6%. These are different reporting bases: do not treat the consolidated revenue and profit figures as standalone results or combine them with standalone margins as if they shared a basis. The figures describe growth alongside margin contraction. They do not, by themselves, establish why margins fell, whether the decline will continue, or whether the results were below market expectations. Current consensus estimates and the company’s primary Q2 FY27 release are not established by the cited reports.
Why might the margin miss matter?
Revenue growth does not automatically translate into the same pace of profit growth. A lower EBITDA margin means a smaller share of standalone revenue remained as earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization; the lower PAT margin likewise means a smaller share remained as profit after tax. The reported year-over-year changes were 30 basis points for EBITDA margin and 40 basis points for PAT margin.

Those changes merit monitoring, but one quarter does not prove that the business has suffered a lasting deterioration. In Q2 FY26, the company’s official release reported standalone revenue of ₹16,219 crore, up 15.4% year over year; EBITDA margin of 7.6% versus 7.9%; PAT margin of 4.6% versus 5.0%; basic EPS of ₹11.47 versus ₹10.92; and eight store additions. Those are prior-year figures, not Q2 FY27 results. Avenue Supermarts’ Q2 FY26 release.
What do store growth figures tell investors?
Financial Express reported 9.5% growth for stores that had been operating for at least two years and 15 new stores added in Q2 FY27. The comparable-store measure offers a view of established locations, while store additions show expansion. Neither figure alone reveals whether newer stores are reaching attractive sales levels or earning acceptable returns; that assessment requires more detail on store maturity, productivity and costs.

For context, Avenue Supermarts added eight stores in Q2 FY26, according to its official release. Store-count comparisons across quarters are useful, but do not substitute for the economics of each cohort of stores.
Why did DMart shares fall after the results?
The Economic Times reported a closing price of ₹3,516.80 on October 10, 2026, down 1.90% from the previous close. That is a single-session move, not proof that investors have revised their long-term view of the company. Shares can react to the gap between results and expectations, but the current consensus estimates needed to establish whether Q2 FY27 missed expectations are not available in the cited evidence.

Earlier-period commentary should not be mistaken for a confirmed explanation of the current margin movement. A brokerage note on Q2 FY26 cited tepid store metrics, competition from e-commerce and quick-commerce platforms, higher overheads and store-level wages as pressures. Those were analyst views about the earlier period, not company-confirmed causes of Q2 FY27 margin changes. Moneycontrol’s report on the Q2 FY26 brokerage note.

The results alone do not settle the decision. The right action depends on the price you would pay or have paid, your investment horizon, risk tolerance and how much of your portfolio is exposed to the stock. The available evidence does not establish current valuation multiples, consensus earnings expectations or a sufficiently supported set of current analyst ratings, so a confident trade call would go beyond it.

When a buy decision may fit
A prospective buyer can assess whether the current share price is reasonable relative to a realistic view of future earnings, and whether the business’s growth prospects justify the risk of lower margins. Do not assume that strong reported revenue growth makes the stock attractive at any price. Set a valuation range and decide what evidence—such as improving margins or stronger established-store growth—would support the investment case.

A holder can compare the original investment thesis with the latest evidence: revenue and profit growth, established-store performance, store expansion and margin direction. If the thesis depends on sustained growth with stable or improving profitability, the margin decline is a reason to monitor subsequent results. A one-day share-price drop alone is not a reason to abandon a long-term thesis.

When selling may fit
Selling may be appropriate if the evidence changes the assumptions behind your investment case, if the stock no longer fits your risk tolerance, or if your position has become too concentrated. Distinguish a genuine thesis change from a short-term market reaction; avoid treating one reported quarter or one session’s price move as conclusive on its own.
