That is about $1.46 billion—often rounded to $1.4 billion—and substantially less than either of the first two Avatar films.
How much did Avatar: Fire and Ash make worldwide?
Guinness World Records, citing The Numbers, listed the film’s worldwide gross at $1,462,295,946 on February 18, 2026. Disney later gave a rounded figure of $1.48 billion in a UK press release dated June 10, 2026. The totals are from different sources and reporting snapshots, so they should not be treated as identical measurements. Guinness World Records’ comparison provides the dated, precise figure; Disney UK’s announcement provides the later rounded update.

For context, Disney reported on January 4, 2026 that the film had reached $1.083 billion worldwide, comprising $306 million domestic and $777.1 million international. That was an early milestone, not its final total. Disney’s January report documents that snapshot.
How does it compare with the first two Avatar films?
The cleanest comparison uses the same source and date for all three worldwide lifetime grosses. These are nominal grosses, not adjusted for inflation or changes in ticket prices, currency values, or theatrical market size.

- Return to Pandora for the third chapter of Marine turned Na’vi leader Jake Sully and his family. Reeling from one death, the Sullys set out to prevent another — aided by the Wind Traders. But on the way, they’re attacked by the Ash People, who blame Eywa for their ravaged home. Warning: Some flashing-lights scenes may affect photosensitive viewers.

| Avatar: Fire and Ash | $1,462,295,946 | — |
All figures are from The Numbers as cited by Guinness World Records in its February 18, 2026 snapshot. Fire and Ash earned roughly half the first film’s total and about 63% of The Way of Water’s. The arithmetic describes the gap in reported gross; it does not explain why the films differed.
Does the lower gross mean the film was a box-office failure?
The figures establish that Fire and Ash grossed less worldwide than its predecessors. They do not establish whether it made a profit or was a financial failure. Box-office gross is not the same as the amount returned to a studio: the comparison does not provide production costs, marketing spending, distribution costs, or theatrical revenue shares. Without those figures, a profitability verdict would go beyond the available evidence.

There is some additional context for its domestic run: Disney said the film held the number-one spot at the domestic box office for five weeks. That is a statement about its run, not a measure of profit or a like-for-like comparison with the other films. Disney’s report includes the claim.

Box-office totals can change as receipts are reported or updated, and publications may use different reporting dates or rounding. That is why the February 2026 precise total and Disney’s June 2026 rounded total should each be attributed to its source and date. Guinness also cautions that records change and online updates may not be immediate.
Use a dated snapshot for comparisons rather than mixing a later rounded update for one film with earlier totals for the others. For The Way of Water, for example, Disney reported $2,243.2 million worldwide on February 21, 2023, at the film’s tenth weekend; that running total is not its final lifetime gross. Disney’s 2023 report makes the date and milestone clear.

What the box-office figures do—and do not—show
- They show: Fire and Ash finished below both earlier films in nominal worldwide gross in the cited comparison.
- They do not show: profit, the number of viewers, audience satisfaction, or whether the third film underperformed against its budget.
- They are not inflation-adjusted: the comparison does not account for ticket prices or market changes across the films’ theatrical runs.
