Australia’s Powerball jackpot rose from $100 million to $150 million after no ticket won Division One in the Thursday, May 16, 2024 draw. The $150 million figure was the advertised prize for the following Thursday’s draw; the available reports here do not establish that later draw’s result.
Why did the Powerball jackpot rise to $150 million?
The May 16 draw offered a $100 million Division One prize. Because no ticket matched the Division One result, the jackpot rolled over, and Lotterywest announced a $150 million prize for the next Thursday’s draw. This is a report of a 2024 event, not a current jackpot update.
Lotterywest CEO Colin Smith said players could join a syndicate with friends, family or colleagues to share the cost of an entry. That is the operator’s promotional statement: sharing an entry may divide its cost and any prize among members, but it does not improve the chance of a game line winning.
What were the May 16, 2024 Powerball numbers?
PerthNow reported the winning numbers as 1, 2, 9, 12, 13, 14 and 18, with Powerball 3. The same report listed ten Division Two winners, each receiving $179,059. These details are attributed to PerthNow and are not independently confirmed by the Lotterywest announcement cited here.

A syndicate lets participants share the cost of an entry and, if it wins, share the prize according to their arrangement. It does not make a particular line more likely to win. Lotterywest’s game information says no skill or strategy increases the chance of winning; its rules also state that all eight numbers are needed for a Division One win. Draws take place on Thursdays, according to the game page.
