The Australian activewear label in the headline is Exoticathletica. It entered voluntary administration on 9 April 2025. Reporting in May said the business was still trading while creditors sought expressions of interest for a sale, so administration did not mean it stopped operating immediately. The available reporting does not establish the business’s final outcome.
What happened to Exoticathletica?
Exoticathletica was founded by Leilani Chandler in 2014. 7NEWS reported that Matthew Richardson and Terry van der Velde of SV Partners were appointed administrators on 9 April 2025. In a 21 May report, 7NEWS said the company continued trading during the administration while creditors sought expressions of interest for a sale. 7NEWS
PerthNow’s headline report said the company posted that it would close its doors after ten years. That announcement is not the same as confirmation of a completed liquidation, sale or permanent closure. The reporting available here does not establish what ultimately happened to all of the company’s assets or whether the brand later relaunched. PerthNow
How much did Exoticathletica owe?
News reports gave different figures, which should not be added together: they may describe different claim categories, documents or stages of the administration.

| Reporting outlet | Reported amount | What the figure covers |
|---|---|---|
| 7NEWS, 2025 | $6.7 million | Reported amount owed to Commonwealth Bank. |
| 7NEWS, 2025 | About $5.4 million | Reported unsecured-creditor claims. |
| 7NEWS, 2025 | Up to $114,000 | Estimated staff claims. |
| The Nightly, 2025 | About $13 million | Reported total debts; the same account listed $172,576 in customer claims and $416,447 in employee pay and superannuation claims, as well as supplier debts. |
These are figures reported by the outlets, not a single independently reconciled total. 7NEWS The Nightly
What was Exoticathletica known for?
The brand sold brightly coloured, printed activewear. Its reported signature product was a seamless, wire-free crop top made with thick compression fabric. The Nightly reported that more than 140,000 were sold between April 2020 and April 2021, at around $50 each. That is a reported one-year sales figure, not a measure of the company’s total sales or profitability.

The Nightly quoted Chandler describing the top as suitable for outerwear, gym wear or swimwear. Strong product sales during that period do not, on their own, explain why the business later entered administration. The reporting available here does not establish a single cause for Exoticathletica’s financial distress. The Nightly
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is Exoticathletica the same brand as Stax?
No. Exoticathletica and Stax are separate Australian activewear businesses, and their insolvency events occurred in different years. Stax entered receivership in June 2026. By August, Inside Retail reported that an investor group behind Pushas had acquired Stax assets. The new owners said responsibility for orders placed with the previous entity did not transfer to them; the asset acquisition therefore should not be read as a promise that customers would receive old orders or refunds. What later reporting said about Stax
In an account published on 7 October 2026, Ragtrader reported findings from a CasCap Advisory liquidators’ report to creditors dated 2 October. The reported deficiency was $22.82 million before liquidation costs, compared with $10.35 million on the 24 June balance sheet. The report described an apparent stock overstatement, understated trade creditors and customer prepayments recorded as sales before delivery. It also said completing or refunding unfulfilled orders was difficult and that a dividend to creditor classes other than employees was unlikely. These are reported findings about Stax, not Exoticathletica. Ragtrader
The Stax figures and Exoticathletica claims are not a like-for-like comparison: they concern different companies, different insolvency stages and different reporting periods.
