Trump blamed AT&T’s equipment and said he might use another carrier. AT&T responded that its initial analysis pointed to the conference-call platform rather than AT&T’s network. The call eventually began about 20 minutes late, but public reporting never established exactly what failed.
What happened on June 30, 2025?
Trump was scheduled to address a nationwide call with American faith leaders as part of the White House’s faith-outreach effort. The event was described as the first in a planned series of national calls. Reports said Christian, Jewish and Muslim leaders took part, along with White House officials.
Technical trouble prevented the call from starting on time. After the problem was addressed, the call began roughly 20 minutes late, according to an unnamed White House official cited by The Associated Press.
Contemporaneous accounts do not establish that AT&T’s general wireless or wired network went down, nor do they identify the conferencing vendor.

What did Trump say?
Trump publicly blamed AT&T, saying the company was “totally unable to make their equipment work properly.” He said the problem had happened before, appealed to the company’s leadership to intervene and suggested that a different carrier could be used for a future call. His contemporaneous posts are archived at Trump’s Truth Social archive.
Trump also referred to “tens of thousands” of people being on the line. That is his characterization, not a verified attendance count. An estimate reported by AP put participation at approximately 8,000 to 10,000 faith leaders.

How did AT&T respond?
AT&T said it contacted the White House and that its initial analysis indicated the disruption came from the conference-call platform, not AT&T’s network. The company said it was investigating the incident and looking for ways to prevent similar disruptions.
That wording is important. An initial analysis is a preliminary attribution, not a published final forensic report. AT&T did not name the platform or release technical evidence that would allow an independent determination of the root cause. Reuters’ account of the response appears at Investing.com, with a syndicated version at Channel NewsAsia.

What is known—and what is not?
| Point | What the public record supports |
|---|---|
| Date | Monday, June 30, 2025. |
| Event | A White House conference call with American faith leaders. |
| Delay | The call started about 20 minutes late; that does not prove the technical problem lasted exactly 20 minutes. |
| Attendance | Trump said “tens of thousands”; an unnamed White House official cited by AP estimated about 8,000–10,000. |
| AT&T’s position | Its initial analysis indicated the conference-call platform, rather than its network, caused the disruption. |
| Platform identity | Not publicly identified in the reporting reviewed. |
| Final diagnosis | No definitive independent technical finding has been published in the available accounts. |
Why the network-versus-platform distinction matters
A large conference call can fail at several different layers:
- Access network: a participant’s wireless, broadband or enterprise connection.
- Interconnection: routing between carriers or networks.
- Conference platform: the service that authenticates callers, admits them to a bridge, mixes audio and applies moderation controls.
- Host systems: White House scheduling, credentials, moderator settings or other equipment.
- Participant endpoints: individual phones, computers, microphones, browsers or local connections.
AT&T’s statement placed the suspected failure at the platform layer. A platform problem can delay a call while the carrier’s broader network operates normally. Conversely, a carrier can still be involved indirectly through routing, authentication or a managed conferencing product. Without logs or a final investigation, the public record cannot rule every AT&T-related component in or out.

Did the call ultimately take place?
Yes. Once the technical issue was resolved or bypassed, the call proceeded after the approximately 20-minute delay. Coverage said Trump discussed administration priorities, including his tax-and-spending legislation and other policy matters. A government record of the June 30 event is available in the Daily Compilation of Presidential Documents; additional reporting appears in Deseret News.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What remains unresolved?
- Which conference-call platform or vendor was involved.
- The precise failure mechanism, such as bridge capacity, authentication, scheduling or routing.
- Whether the system was fully repaired or the organizers used a workaround.
- Whether AT&T completed a later investigation beyond the initial analysis.
- Whether the earlier incident Trump referenced was comparable.
Because those details were not made public, neither “AT&T caused the outage” nor “AT&T was definitively cleared” goes beyond the evidence.

The wider AT&T context
Trump had criticized AT&T during his first presidential term, when the company owned CNN, over the network’s coverage of his administration. That history helps explain why the dispute drew attention, but it does not establish that his 2025 allegation was politically motivated or technically correct. Nor does the possibility of switching carriers show that a carrier change would fix a problem located in a separate conference platform.
Bottom line
Trump blamed AT&T for equipment failures that delayed his faith-leaders call. AT&T said its preliminary assessment implicated the conference-call platform, not its network. The event did happen about 20 minutes late, but the vendor and exact failure were never publicly identified. The most supportable conclusion is therefore an unresolved technical dispute, not a proven AT&T network outage.
