GeekWire reported that a Washington WARN notice covered 63 workers; that state-specific figure is not the global total. Atlassian also said CTO Rajeev Rajan would leave the role effective March 31, 2026.
How many Atlassian workers in Washington were affected?
GeekWire reported that a Washington WARN notice filed with state regulators listed 63 workers. That number refers to the reported Washington notice, not Atlassian’s worldwide workforce reduction. The downloadable notice itself was not independently reviewed, so the 63-worker figure should be attributed to GeekWire rather than treated as a direct verification of the state record. GeekWire’s March 11 report describes the notice.
Washington’s Employment Security Department says its WARN database includes employer, location, effective date, worker count, notice-received date, and a downloadable notice. Its database description does not, by itself, confirm the contents of Atlassian’s particular notice. Washington ESD’s WARN information says employers planning a mass layoff must provide 60 days’ notice; that general requirement is not a determination of any individual worker’s rights or circumstances.
How large was Atlassian’s company-wide restructuring?
In a March 11, 2026 Form 8-K, Atlassian said the restructuring would eliminate certain roles and affect approximately 10% of its workforce. CEO Mike Cannon-Brookes’s employee update, filed as an SEC exhibit, described that as approximately 1,600 employees. These are the company’s global estimates, not an additional count to add to Washington’s 63. Atlassian’s SEC Form 8-K and the CEO’s filed employee update provide the company figures.
#1 Best Overall
- Split-Key Ergonomic Design: One-piece split layout separates keys into left and right zones to reduce wrist bending and support a natural hand position, helping minimize strain during long hours of typing.
- Long Key Travel & Tactile Feedback: Extended key travel delivers responsive, tactile feedback with audible confirmation, similar to brown mechanical switches. Built for durability with up to 20 million keystrokes.
- Old-School Curved Row Design: Stepped, curved key rows promote a natural typing posture and reduce fatigue during long sessions. Made from high-quality ABS with membrane switches and 4.2 mm key travel.
- Ergonomic Curved Keycaps: Curved keycaps with flatter tops and back edges fit fingertip contours for improved comfort and control. Available in black, beige, and white color options.
- Natural Learning Curve: Ergonomic shape may require a short adjustment period. Most users adapt within 1–2 weeks and experience improved comfort and reduced wrist pressure with continued use.
When did Rajeev Rajan step down as CTO?
Atlassian said Rajan’s departure from the CTO role would take effect March 31, 2026, following the March 11 announcement. The filing said he had been with Atlassian for almost four years. It named Taroon Mandhana as CTO Teamwork and Vikram Rao as CTO Enterprise and Chief Trust Officer. The Form 8-K records the date and leadership changes.
What reason did Atlassian give for the layoffs?
Atlassian said the restructuring was intended to rebalance the company for the AI era, fund investment in AI and enterprise sales, reorganize teams, and improve long-term operating efficiency. Cannon-Brookes described the goal as self-funding further investment in AI and enterprise sales while strengthening the company’s financial profile. Those are management’s stated reasons; the filings do not establish that AI independently caused the job cuts. The company filing and CEO update explain the company’s rationale.

What did Atlassian later report about restructuring costs?
Atlassian’s March 11 Form 8-K estimated restructuring charges of $225 million to $236 million; that was an estimate, not a final reported total. In its 2026 Form 10-K, the company said that as of June 30, 2026, cash payments for severance and other termination-benefit liabilities related to the actions had been substantially satisfied. The March filing contains the estimate, while Atlassian’s 2026 Form 10-K reports the later payment status.
