HotHardware reported the offer on July 24, 2025, and the matching Slickdeals record is marked expired. The configuration was model X1404VA-I512256, with a 14-inch Full HD display, Intel Core i5-1334U, 12GB of memory and a 256GB SSD. The roundup also listed other laptops below $500, including gaming models, but it does not establish their current prices or availability.
What was included in the $299 ASUS Vivobook 14 deal?
HotHardware reported on July 24, 2025, that Best Buy had the ASUS Vivobook 14 model X1404VA-I512256 for $299.99, with a stated $300 saving. Best Buy’s listing identifies the model and its core configuration; the dated Slickdeals record identifies the same model and offer and marks the deal expired. Those records establish what was advertised then, not what the laptop costs now. HotHardware’s July 24, 2025 roundup · Best Buy’s Vivobook listing · Slickdeals’ July 2025 deal record.
- Display: 14 inches, 1920 × 1080 resolution.
- Processor: Intel Core i5-1334U, with 10 cores and 12 threads and a maximum clock speed of 4.6GHz, as reported in the roundup.
- Memory: 12GB DDR4.
- Storage: 256GB PCIe 4.0 SSD.
The main trade-off is capacity: 12GB of memory and an i5 processor are notable on a low-cost configuration, but a 256GB drive leaves less room for installed applications and locally stored files than the 512GB drives in some of the other offers. The available listing and deal coverage describe specifications; they do not provide hands-on performance testing.
How did the other sub-$500 offers compare?
These are prices HotHardware reported in its July 24, 2025 article, not verified live offers. The roundup did not provide a current stock check for these models. Its listed savings are retailer-deal figures reported by HotHardware, not independent price assessments.

Which specifications matter when comparing these laptops?
For general use, weigh memory against storage
The listed alternatives vary in both memory and storage. The HP 15.6-inch touch model has 16GB of memory but a 256GB drive; the ASUS Vivobook 17 has 8GB of memory and 512GB of storage; and the IdeaPad Slim 3i has 8GB with just 128GB of UFS storage. These figures describe capacity and type, not measured speed or overall performance. Consider how much space you need for apps and files alongside how many tasks you expect to keep open.
For gaming, note the GPU, screen and condition
The Acer Nitro 5 and Lenovo LOQ stand apart from the general-purpose configurations because both were listed with an RTX 3050 graphics processor. The Nitro also had a 17.3-inch 144Hz display; the LOQ’s display details were not stated in the roundup. The LOQ prices applied to open-box units in two condition grades, rather than a standard new-laptop offer. The article’s update said the Nitro deal had sold out, so its quoted price should not be treated as an available alternative.

Compare display details only where they are stated
The roundup supplies screen size and resolution for the Vivobook 14, and size, resolution, panel type and refresh rate for the Nitro 5. It identifies the HP model as a 15.6-inch touchscreen. It does not state display specifications for every alternative, so those models cannot be fully compared on screen quality from the listed details alone.
