Amazon has not added a general tariff charge to product listings. In April 2025, the company said it rejected a proposal to show import charges on some Amazon Haul products. In January 2026, CEO Andy Jassy was reported as saying tariffs were beginning to affect product prices, with some sellers absorbing added costs. That points to possible price pressure—not a tariff surcharge on every item or proof that any particular listing went up because of tariffs.
Did Amazon add a tariff line to its listings?
No general tariff line was added. On April 29, 2025, Amazon said its Amazon Haul team had considered displaying import charges on certain products, but the idea was not approved. Amazon Staff wrote, “This was never approved and is not going to happen.” Amazon’s statement described a limited Haul proposal, not a change to listings across Amazon.

Could tariffs still affect Amazon prices?
Yes, tariffs can put pressure on prices without appearing as a separate charge at checkout. On January 20, 2026, TechCrunch reported that Jassy said tariffs were starting to affect product prices. The report also said sellers had absorbed some added costs and increases were possible in some instances.
Those remarks do not establish that every Amazon listing rose, how much any particular item changed, or that a specific price change was caused by tariffs. The sources do not provide a company-wide pass-through percentage or a product-by-product estimate.

When might Amazon show Import Charges?
Import Charges are a separate, order-specific mechanism for some cross-border purchases—not a general tariff label on Amazon listings. Amazon’s UK help page says applicable import fees can be reflected in the total for certain Amazon Global orders and qualifying third-party orders. That guidance is specific to the UK marketplace and eligible international orders; it should not be read as a description of every Amazon marketplace or purchase.
What did the Senate request tell shoppers?
On February 25, 2026, the Senate Banking Committee asked Amazon for information about price increases and their timing and causes. The committee’s letter characterized Jassy’s remarks as indicating tariff-related increases had reached customers. It was a request for information, not an Amazon estimate, response, or completed analysis.

How to assess a price change on an item you buy
- Check the order details. For an eligible cross-border purchase, look for any Import Charges reflected in the order total; their presence does not show that ordinary Amazon listings carry a tariff surcharge.
- Compare the same item over time. A higher current price alone does not identify its cause. Seller, availability, promotions, and other factors may also change; the cited sources do not establish the reason for an individual item’s price.
- Separate a price increase from a stated tariff charge. A seller may reflect added costs in a listed price without a separate line item. The available remarks indicate possible tariff-related price pressure but do not quantify its effect on a particular purchase.
