No air-conditioner partnership has been announced in the official sources cited here. Panasonic and Xiaomi did sign a cellular standard-essential patent license with Sun Patent Trust in January 2025, but that agreement does not describe a joint air-conditioner product, manufacturing effort, or campaign to win China market share. Each company has separate air-conditioner activity in China; that is not evidence they are working together in the category.

What the Panasonic–Xiaomi agreement covers

On January 14, 2025, Panasonic Holdings Corporation, Sun Patent Trust, and Xiaomi announced a licensing agreement covering cellular standard-essential patents. Panasonic said the parties agreed to withdraw intellectual-property disputes worldwide. The announcement describes a patent-license resolution, not an air-conditioner alliance. Panasonic’s announcement

Panasonic Chief IP Counsel Andrew Y. Yen said the licensing teams planned to identify possible IP collaboration opportunities. The statement is general and does not identify air conditioners as a shared business endeavor. In the release, Xiaomi’s corporate business development and IP strategy general manager described the agreement as resolving the disputes.

What Panasonic does in China’s air-conditioner market

Panasonic’s China materials describe Guangzhou Panasonic Air Conditioner as a business founded in 1993, with residential, central, and commercial products. The company identifies its Guangzhou site as one of its three core global air-conditioner production bases and an important research and development location. These are Panasonic’s descriptions of its own operation, not independent assessments of its market position. Panasonic China’s August 31, 2026 article

Panasonic says the Guangzhou operation has more than 3,000 employees. Its 2026 article reports that overseas markets account for roughly 60–70% of the operation’s revenue and domestic sales for approximately 30–40%. Those figures describe the Guangzhou business’s revenue mix; they are not Panasonic’s share of China’s air-conditioner market.

The company also describes an industry facing high inventory, weak demand, rising costs, and competition from brands with smart ecosystems. That is Panasonic’s account of market conditions. The article presents the “小桃苏” (“Xiao Tao Su”) air conditioner, launched in August 2026, and describes its nanoe technology and operating modes. Any associated feature or benefit claims should be understood as Panasonic’s, not as independently verified performance findings.

What Xiaomi reports about its air conditioners

Xiaomi’s 2024 Q4 results presentation says the company shipped more than 6.8 million air conditioners in 2024, an increase of more than 50% year over year and a record for Xiaomi. This is a company-reported shipment total. It does not measure Xiaomi’s share of China’s market or establish a joint effort with Panasonic. Xiaomi’s 2024 results presentation

What the evidence does—and does not—show

  • Documented relationship: a cellular patent license involving Panasonic, Xiaomi, and Sun Patent Trust, with worldwide IP disputes to be withdrawn.
  • Separate business activity: Panasonic describes its own China air-conditioner operation; Xiaomi reports its own shipments and mainland China product launches.
  • Not established: a joint air-conditioner product, manufacturing partnership, shared market strategy, or effort to take market share together.
  • No matched market-share comparison: the company materials do not provide independent, comparable market-share figures for Panasonic and Xiaomi.

For consumers, the cited materials can help identify broad product categories—room and central air conditioning—and stated connectivity and certification features. They are not enough to choose between brands on performance, price, reliability, or local availability; those questions require model-specific specifications and evidence for the market where the unit will be purchased.
