As of 2:15 p.m. Hong Kong time on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, the Hong Kong securities market is scheduled to be open for its afternoon continuous-trading session. October 7 is not listed as a 2026 securities-market holiday. Check HKEX’s trading-hours page and its latest notices for any exceptional closure or halt affecting a specific security.
How to tell whether Hong Kong stocks are open today
Use Hong Kong local time (UTC+8) and the exchange’s securities-market calendar. Regular securities trading is scheduled Monday through Friday, excluding listed market holidays. The answer for October 7, 2026 is open: the local time is in the afternoon session, and that date is not a listed holiday. An individual stock can still be halted, and an exceptional exchange announcement can change the general schedule.
For another date, first convert your current time to Hong Kong time, then check the relevant date on HKEX’s securities trading-hours page and trading calendar.

2026 Hong Kong securities-market holidays and half days
HKEX’s holiday circular, dated June 2, 2025, lists October 1 (National Day), October 19 (the day following Chung Yeung Festival), and December 25 (Christmas Day) as securities-market holidays in October–December 2026. October 7 is not among them. The circular also identifies February 16 (Eve of Lunar New Year), December 24 (Eve of Christmas Day), and December 31 (Eve of New Year) as half-day trading days and non-settlement days.
Use the exchange’s 2026 securities-market holiday circular for the complete date list. The October 2026 calendar also marks October 1 as National Day and says the Hong Kong market is closed. These are exchange securities-market dates, not a substitute for a general public-holiday calendar.
Severe weather and exceptional closures
Under HKEX’s severe-weather trading arrangements in effect since 2024, Hong Kong securities and derivatives markets—including Stock Connect, derivatives holiday trading, and the after-hours session—continue according to the predetermined trading calendar during severe weather. HKEX states that it may assess exceptional circumstances with the HKSAR Government and the SFC and announce a closure if warranted. Read the current severe-weather trading overview and watch for exchange announcements rather than assuming a weather warning automatically closes the market.
Market operation does not guarantee that every investor can use every service. HKEX advises investors to check with their own brokers and banks because their service provision may differ; its guidance says physical public-facing outlets should not provide services on a severe-weather trading day. See HKEX’s broker and service arrangements.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Hong Kong stocks and derivatives do not share one holiday rule
Ordinary Hong Kong-listed shares follow the securities-market calendar. HKEX separately designates some derivatives contracts for holiday trading; other contracts do not trade on listed market holidays. For example, its 2026 derivatives calendar distinguishes “Holiday Trading Exchange Contracts” from “Non-Holiday Trading Exchange Contracts” and notes that New Year’s Day is an exception. Holiday trading for a designated derivatives contract does not mean ordinary shares are open. Check the calendar for the specific product as well as the securities calendar.
