What does a ’90s denim revival look like?

The revival has precedents. ABC News reported an earlier resurgence in Australia in 2018, with local fashion commentators discussing mom jeans, baggy track pants, oversized jackets and high-waisted plaid pants. What Levi’s is doing—and what its results show
Levi Strauss & Co. describes itself as a jeanswear company that designs and markets jeans and related apparel. Its stated priorities include expanding its denim-lifestyle leadership, moving toward a direct-to-consumer-first model and growing its women’s business. For the fiscal year ended November 30, 2025, the company reported $6.3 billion in net revenues, up 4% on a reported basis and 7% organically from fiscal 2024. Gross margin was 61.7%, 110 basis points above the prior year. These figures cover Levi Strauss & Co. as a whole; the release does not break out revenue from baggy, wide-leg or other ’90s-inspired jeans.
President and CEO Michelle Gass described the company’s direction this way: “Over the past few years, we’ve taken bold steps toward becoming a DTC-first, head-to-toe denim lifestyle brand,” Gass’s statement. It is the company’s own account of its strategy, not an independent assessment of the trend or its effect on sales.

Does the evidence show Levi’s is cashing in on the trend?
Not specifically. The available information supports three separate points: retailers are showcasing some ’90s-associated denim silhouettes; Levi Strauss & Co. is focused on its broader denim business; and the company reported higher fiscal 2025 revenue. It does not connect those results to the revival, quantify demand for the styles, or show that Levi’s strategy was created in response to them. Calling the revenue increase a payoff from ’90s jeans would go beyond what the company has reported.
What to look for if you’re shopping the look
Rather than relying on a decade label, compare the features that affect comfort and how jeans sit on you:

- Rise: Check where the waistband sits on your body, since a high rise will feel and look different from a lower one.
- Leg shape: Baggy and wide-leg are related relaxed silhouettes, but the cut and width can differ. Check product photos and the garment description.
- Wash: Choose the color and finish that work with the clothes you already own.
- Sizing and ease: Use the brand’s size guide and garment measurements where available. “Relaxed” does not specify exactly how loose a particular pair will fit.
These are practical comparison criteria, not a ranking of Levi’s models or proof that any specific pair is a top-selling ’90s style.
