Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) Advertisement No. 22/2025 invited applications for 50 Forest Ranger posts in the Assam Forest Service. Applications opened June 21, 2025, and closed July 20, with fee payment due by July 22. All three dates have passed; this is a summary of the 2025 recruitment cycle, not an open application notice.
What the 2025 notification announced
APSC issued Advertisement No. 22/2025 on June 16, 2025, for Forest Rangers under Assam’s Environment & Forests Department. The advertisement listed a pay scale of Rs. 22,000–97,000, with Rs. 10,300 grade pay in Pay Band 3, plus allowances admissible to Assam State Government employees. These are the terms stated in that notice, not a current salary confirmation. Read APSC Advertisement No. 22/2025.
Vacancies listed
The notice advertised 50 posts. Its category table listed 44 open-category posts, including 13 reserved for women; 2 SC posts; and 2 STH posts. It listed no OBC/MOBC or STP posts and no posts reserved for persons with benchmark disabilities. APSC’s notice says the reservation details follow a draft advertisement received from the government against total cadre numbers, so the figures should be read with that caveat.
Who could apply
Residency and documents
Candidates had to be permanent residents of Assam. The notice accepted either a valid Assam Permanent Residence Certificate issued for education or an Employment Exchange registration certificate as proof. Assam State Government employees were exempt from providing that proof but had to submit a no-objection certificate from their employer.

Degree and subjects
The education requirement was a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in science or engineering from a recognized university, with at least one of the specified subjects: Agriculture, Botany, Chemistry, Computer Applications/Computer Science, specified branches of Engineering, Environmental Science, Forestry, Geology, Horticulture, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, Veterinary Science or Zoology. The advertisement contains the precise engineering branches and eligibility wording; consult the original notice if your degree title or subject combination is not clear.
Age on the specified date
The age range was 21 to 38 years as of January 1, 2025. The notice allowed five years’ upper-age relaxation for Assam SC, ST(P) and ST(H) candidates and three years for Assam OBC/MOBC candidates. Age was to be calculated from the Matriculation or HSLC admit card.
Application dates and fees
The application period and fee deadline are historical. APSC accepted online applications from June 21 through July 20, 2025; payment of fees was due by July 22. Scroll’s contemporaneous report dated June 17, 2025, also identified June 21 as the opening date: Scroll’s report on the notification.
The notice directed candidates to apply through APSC’s recruitment portal. It described account registration, completing the form, uploading documents and paying online, and advised applicants to retain a printed copy of the submitted application. Those instructions do not mean the portal is accepting applications for this expired cycle.
Fees stated in the notice
- Unreserved: Rs. 297.20.
- OBC/MOBC: Rs. 197.20.
- SC/ST/BPL: Rs. 47.20.
Applicants claiming the reduced fee had to provide the relevant certificate. Fees were non-refundable under the notice.
How selection was structured
Written examination
The written examination carried 500 marks across four papers. Candidates selected two optional subjects from the listed degree-level subjects. The notice imposed restrictions on choosing more than one subject from specified overlapping groups, so candidates needed to check its subject-combination rules rather than assume any two listed subjects could be paired.
Walking test, medical examination and interview
Candidates who qualified in the written examination were required to complete a walking test: 25 km for male candidates or 16 km for female candidates, each within four hours. A medical examination followed. Candidates who passed the walking test and were found medically fit were called for a 75-mark interview.
The advertisement also specified minimum height standards by category and sex, as well as chest measurements: 79 cm normal with 5 cm expansion for male candidates, and 74 cm normal with 5 cm expansion for female candidates. Height thresholds vary by category in the notice; check the original advertisement for the applicable threshold instead of relying on a single figure.
