Apple’s AirPods Pro 2 with the USB-C charging case sold for $170 at Amazon on November 8, 2024, according to Engadget’s deal report. That was about $80, or 32%, below the then-listed price of approximately $250.
This is a historical deal, not a price that should be assumed to be active today. As of August 2026, Apple’s current premium in-ear model is the AirPods Pro 3, listed at $249 on its official store. If you find AirPods Pro 2 now, compare the live price, condition, seller and warranty before deciding whether the older model is the better value.

Was $170 a good price for AirPods Pro 2?
Yes. For a new pair of AirPods Pro 2 at the time, $170 was an unusually strong price—although it was not the lowest reported price. Engadget said the previous low was $169, making the promotion just $1 above that level.

- $170 or less: Excellent value if the earbuds are new and include the USB-C case.
- $171–$199: Still reasonable, but compare the price with newer AirPods Pro models.
- $200–$229: Check current-generation alternatives carefully.
- $230 or more: Usually difficult to justify for an older model unless you specifically prefer its design or features.
Those thresholds are buying guidance, not guaranteed current market prices. Promotional pricing can change quickly, particularly around Black Friday.
What exactly was included in the deal?
The reported offer was for AirPods Pro 2 with a USB-C charging case at Amazon. The distinction matters because older AirPods Pro 2 inventory used a Lightning charging case. A listing that simply says “AirPods Pro 2” may not make the connector clear.
Before buying any similarly priced listing, confirm:

- The case has a USB-C connector.
- The item is new, rather than refurbished, renewed, open-box or used.
- The seller is Amazon or a seller you trust—not merely a marketplace listing using Amazon’s checkout.
- The stated return window and warranty are acceptable.
- The low price applies to the configuration you selected, not only to another color, seller or condition.
- The final checkout total does not depend on an undisclosed coupon, membership requirement or shipping charge.
When the price difference is small, buying from Apple or an authorized retailer can reduce uncertainty around authenticity, returns and warranty coverage. Do not assume every marketplace listing receives the same warranty treatment as a direct Apple purchase.
Why AirPods Pro 2 were worth considering
AirPods Pro 2 paired Apple’s H2 chip with active noise cancellation, Transparency mode and Personalized Spatial Audio. They also offered fast pairing and automatic switching among supported Apple devices, plus hands-free Siri.
For someone who uses an iPhone, iPad and Mac, those conveniences can be more valuable than a small difference in audio specifications. The earbuds are also IPX4-rated for water resistance, which is useful for sweat and light splashes but does not make them waterproof.

Engadget gave the AirPods Pro 2 an 88/100 score in its 2022 review. In its testing, the earbuds lasted about six hours and 15 minutes per charge, while the case supplied up to three additional charges. That is a test result, not a guaranteed runtime: volume, calls, noise cancellation, spatial audio and other settings affect battery life.
Hearing features have important limits
AirPods Pro 2 support hearing-related features including Hearing Test, Hearing Aid and Hearing Protection functionality, but those features are not universal or automatically available to every owner.
Apple’s regulatory instructions describe compatibility requirements for supported iPhone and iPad devices and treat the Hearing Aid feature as a regulated health function. Availability may depend on the country or region, compatible hardware, operating-system version, firmware and regulatory authorization. The Hearing Aid feature is intended for eligible users with perceived mild-to-moderate hearing loss under the applicable requirements. It is not a substitute for professional medical care. If hearing loss is a concern, consult an appropriately qualified hearing-care professional rather than buying earbuds on the assumption that they will provide medical treatment.
AirPods Pro 2 versus AirPods Pro 3
At the research date in August 2026, Apple listed AirPods Pro 3 at $249. Apple’s storefront describes the newer model as offering features including heart-rate sensing, updated hearing-health functionality and up to eight hours of battery life. - If AirPods Pro 2 are close to $170: They can be the better value for an iPhone owner who wants Apple integration, ANC and the Pro 2 feature set.
- If the gap is small: The current AirPods Pro 3 are the safer default for buyers who want the newest generation, longer published battery life and newer features.
- If Pro 2 cost near $250: Paying nearly the current-model price weakens the case for buying older stock.
This does not establish that AirPods Pro 3 are better in every respect; detailed performance claims require independent testing. It does mean that an older model needs a meaningful discount to remain compelling.

AirPods Pro 2 make the most sense for:
- iPhone, iPad or Mac owners who value automatic pairing and device switching.
- Buyers who want compact in-ear earbuds with noise cancellation and Transparency mode.
- Eligible users specifically seeking Apple’s hearing features after verifying compatibility and regional availability.
- Shoppers who can find a new USB-C version at or below the historical $170 price.
Who should skip them?
Consider another option if you use Android as your primary platform, dislike silicone ear tips or want the longest possible battery life. The earbuds can function as Bluetooth headphones with Android, but users will not receive the full Apple ecosystem experience.
They are also less attractive when the price approaches that of AirPods Pro 3. Buyers should be particularly cautious of unusually cheap listings that are renewed, refurbished, open-box or sold by an unfamiliar marketplace seller.

The phrase “ahead of Black Friday” referred to the November 2024 promotion. It does not mean that the $170 price is still available in 2026. Black Friday discounts can return, fall below a previous price or shift toward the newer model instead.
If you are shopping today, use the $170 deal as a benchmark rather than as a live offer. Compare the actual checkout prices of AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods Pro 3, and record the date you checked them. Waiting makes sense when the older model is priced close to the current one and you do not need earbuds immediately. Buying makes sense when a verified, new USB-C pair is materially cheaper and you are comfortable with its warranty and return terms.
Bottom line for shoppers
The $170 AirPods Pro 2 promotion was real and represented a strong historical deal, especially for Apple-device owners. It was near—but not equal to—the reported $169 low. In August 2026, however, it should be treated as an archived price, not a current sale. Compare any available Pro 2 inventory with Apple’s current AirPods Pro 3 price before spending, and do not sacrifice seller reliability or warranty coverage for a headline discount.
