Apple agreed to a $95 million settlement resolving a U.S. lawsuit that alleged Siri-enabled devices sometimes activated unintentionally and captured private conversations. The settlement was not an admission of wrongdoing: Apple denied liability. The claims period and claim requirements were specific, and the administrator’s surfaced deadline to request a reissued payment—September 3, 2026—has passed.
What the Siri lawsuit alleged
Lopez v. Apple Inc. concerned allegations that Siri-enabled devices sometimes activated without users intending to invoke Siri, and that communications could then be acquired or shared. The case covered alleged qualifying events between September 17, 2014, and December 31, 2024. An alleged activation does not by itself establish that a particular person’s conversation was captured.

The preliminary approval order identified covered devices as Siri-enabled iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, MacBook, iMac, HomePod, iPod touch, and Apple TV. The class was limited to qualifying individuals residing in the United States or its territories.
What the $95 million settlement means
The $95 million was the gross settlement fund under the 2024 agreement, not a guaranteed payment to each class member. Administration costs, taxes, court-approved attorneys’ fees and expenses, and service awards were to be paid or accounted for before the net amount available to claimants was calculated.

Under the agreement, valid claims were to receive a pro rata share of the net fund, capped at $20 per claimed device. The $20 cap was not a promised payment: the amount depended on the net fund and the number of valid claims and devices.
Who met the stated eligibility requirements
The claim form required an attestation under oath that the claimant:
- Purchased or owned a covered Siri-enabled device in the United States or its territories.
- Had Siri enabled on that device.
- Experienced at least one unintended Siri activation.
- Had an unintended activation occur during a conversation intended to be confidential or private.
A claim could include up to five devices. These were historical settlement eligibility requirements, not a general finding that every Siri user’s private conversation had been recorded.

Can you still claim or request a replacement payment?
The settlement administrator’s surfaced information said requests to reissue settlement payments could be made through September 3, 2026. That date had passed by October 4, 2026. The available materials do not establish whether late requests or exceptions are accepted. If you have a payment issue, check the settlement administrator’s website for any current contact route or update; do not assume a late request will be honored.
The preliminary approval order, dated February 10, 2025, set a proposed final approval hearing date of August 1, 2025. That order is not a final judgment, and the information available here does not establish the later final disposition or any appeal status. For the precise terms and status, consult the administrator and court records rather than treating the proposed hearing date as proof of a final outcome.
Apple’s position and what settlement does—and does not—show
The preliminary approval order states that “Apple denies any and all liability but does not oppose the Motion.” In other words, settling resolved the claims on the agreed terms but did not establish that Apple violated the law or admitted to eavesdropping. The settlement terms also are not an independent statistic about how often Siri activated unintentionally or recorded conversations.
